Great recipe and instructions. What’s the baking tin size? 8”? I have to say that I find the music too loud and quite distracting. Otherwise, looks yummy. Thank you!
Use a wooden spoon. It is the same temp as the knife obviously! 🙄Also wood insulates, metal doesn’t. A knife will transfer heat from your hands. Wood won’t.
What an interesting approach! It's a different concept of rye bread than I have learned in the US. How is the bread typically eaten? With just a spread of butter? For sandwiches? For toast? It seems a bit crumbly for sandwiches. Thank you!
Hi, i picked up a few bags of this recently as i dont always have time to make a rye starter. I dont have a dough hook on my mixer - any reason why i shouldn't mix with the water by hand please?
Dear Catherine, I baked many Christmas cakes and always lined my tins, but I’ve never come across the tip for breaking the grain of the paper. Now I won’t be wrestling with it in future. Thank you.
Suet is delicious. People have grown so accustomed to vegetable/seed oils, which are NOT good for you in large quantities. Which sadly most do eat every single day. Animal fats are much better for you, butter and olive oils are also great. Dont use Crisco as a substitute.
Literally did this on Friday for my H.E assignment and it turned out quite well! I did modify it a little to change it into little buns but overall I enjoyed this!
Dear lovely Irish Lady, thank you so much for this brilliant video tutorial. I thought I'd have to line my cake tin with brown paper as well as baking paper, because that's how my mum used to do it, but your method is so much better - sorry mum 😅 but it is! Do you have a Christmas cake recipe as well? Also I was wondering how much booze I should soak the dried fruit in if I use 2 to 3 pounds of fruit, or 11/2 kilos. I'm using spiced dark rum this year in my Christmas cake and someone told me to soak the fruit in about 4 tablespoons of the rum and then, once the cake is made, I should feed it with more rum every couple of weeks until Christmas. What do you think? Thank you again, love from Amanda in Australia ❤❤❤
Hi Amanda, re the alcohol, you can use as much or as little as you like 4 tbsp sounds about right for this size, if you like a boozier cake then you can feed it every few weeks but you can skip this step of you wish. You can find all our recipes at www. odlums.ie
Tried this a bunch of times and it was very dense and seemed not properly cooked no matter how long i left it in for, it was either raw paste or like a brick.
