HMC 100 is the best star in the game for me. Its just got everything thats cool about sm64 speedrunning. Wall clips, a blj, cool fast wall kicks, RNG, Evolving tech with that new triple jump (ginger clip i think its called). Just my favorite star to watch every run
I mean it's pretty silly to assume he doesn't know any women. Knowing women in the streaming community does not mean he knows women in the SPEEDRUNNING community, especially for the fact that he isn't a speedrunner himself (actively at least). There are LOTS of women in the streaming community that are active in his space but none of them are speedrunners really so does it make sense to invite them?
@@cheesespeedrunningyt Cheese, in another post you seemed to be okay with Ludwig inviting streamers who aren't primarily speedrunners. If being a speedrunner wasn't a prerequisite for being in the event, then why didn't Ludwig invite some non-white non-male streamers as well?

Ludwig could have literally clicked onto any Femme Fatale video and learned about a bunch of female speedrunners. I’m shocked a top runner like you is making excuses for a dude putting together an all-dude invitational. Maybe you need to meet more female speedrunners if you don’t see the problem with it.

As an American, I must agree with Cheese. Too many Americans focus on race, religion, cultural backgrounds, etc. It's honestly very disheartening. Maybe one day, people here will live by one of the two sayings I live by. (Love everyone equally / Hate everyone equally) until you can find out if you should hate them more or less than everyone else.
The biggest problem is they are all English-speaking people. I think the concentration on shallow characteristic is called progressive or woke in the USA. People in other countries have more of a problem to understand people, because it is a different language.I would not care who they look like me or if they are a women if they speak my language, so I am more comfortable with it.
I think part of the problem might be that it's not adressed that there are mostly white guys in the community. Maybe? Like - why is that? Is it harder for everyone else to establish themselves? Is it harder to get into the community? Are there actually people out there trying to establish themselves, but it's just harder to build a fanbase or to be seen as worthy? Women are having a hard time being taken seriously in gaming in general, maybe it's even worse in a community that's so skill based. Who knows. Maybe the people criticising it just want people to speak about it more.

100% agreed with all your takes! Like I don't blame ludwig for the lack of diversity, just the most popular gaming and speedrunning creators are predominantly white men, which is a much deeper issue.
Imagine anyone auditioning for an Adam Sandler movie. It kind of just feels like the people are mad at Ludwig for making a tweet and then inviting his friends.
If cheese gets in, all, literally every single speedrunner I watch are going. I watch cheese, linkus, simply, point crow, lilaggy and zfg. I love mario, i love zelda and i love soulsgames. Edit: yes Point Crow is a real speedrunner still. A little more casual these days, but it is still happening

This was a very interesting take! I hadn’t heard about it myself & never thought about Speedrun creator category. I run multiple times a week, but also try and make content, does this belittle my efforts though? Not trying to cause an argument, just genuinely curious.
Just sounds like a whole fck ton of active speed runners are _INSANELY JEALOUS_ of the people that are being invited and showcased because they would’ve done it if they were asked and they feel like they *SHOULD HAVE* been asked, but they *WERE NOT.* It is actually quite ironic how hypocritical a lot of these people are because the only way you can showcase your _speedrunning_ is by simultaneously being a *“creator.”* It’s like calling Cheese a *”speedrunning creator”* just because he uploads his runs to RU-vid and streams on Twitch. By that logic, everyone on the list AND not on the list, *IS BOTH* a _speedrunner_ and a _speedrunning creator._ This whole thing is just ridiculous and the bigger picture and _cause_ is being overlooked. Stop the hate and jealousy, participate in any way you can, by viewing, donating, and/or playing if you’re invited, and most of all, *ENJOY IT AND HAVE FUN!* That is all… 😅
32:10 I mean this is just insanely false. You're right when it comes to how white dude are pretty much the only popular ones, but the speedrunning community is very diverse on the ground level. People are sad that there's no way for Ludwig to actually show this off unless he does get some of the less known (but still popular compared to the average streamer) runners that are non-white or somewhere on the gender spectrum that isn't men.

I love you cheese. You think reasonably and logically and very clearly express your points with clearly no level of hatred towards anyone. You see that everyone is equal and can focus on the main points and see the bigger picture to things without jumping to conclusions and you're awesome for that!
I've been speedrunning for a while (started in the early 2000s with doom 2) and up until like 2 years ago I was just like these people, insanely gatekeepy about my hobby. It's stupid, the more people running your game the better and there's almost never a downside.
