Influences for sure shine through but Stella is a class act of her own... I thought this the perfect place to write my comment. I am awaiting my cd of Stella's new album to arrive and in the meantime have checked out a few of the songs from this release on RU-vid - just enough to sweeten the appetite. Some things came straight to mind; besides the fact the album is stunningly beautiful listening experience. Like Stella herself and her fans many have often drawn some similarities between her and the late great Judy Garland. These points have been valid and stated to express just what an amazing talent Stella is. HOWEVER and this is what struck me on the song samples, it would be wrong and unfair to suggest Stella is akin to a tribute act. Her singing on this album is so sweet and almost dreamlike to the ears. Whilst there are nods of similarity to Judy Garland, there are qualities to Stella’s vocals that are unique to her. I found her tone and timbre to have such an appealing beautiful clarity and individual sound that is hers alone. It is hard to put in words, but Stella's singing is not a copy but her own innate take on material she loves. That love comes out in her phrasing and again that gorgeous clarity of sound. Less razzamatazz and more elegance and eloquence. So, whilst not in any way downplaying the talents and genius of one of history's greatest singers in Judy Garland, I believe if Stella had been born in the 1940's or fifties, she too would also have found fame and accolades. I am blown away by her music and the sincere dignity and reference in which she sings. I realise I have left many comments on RU-vid and would like people to know that is simply because I do not use other forms of social media. I stand by every word and comment I have made about this lady and her artistry. Harry Connick was once thought of as the new Frank Sinatra. Stella is often thought of as the new Judy Garland. In both cases there are moments where such associations merit some worth, yet also like Harry, Stella brings her own individual, unique qualities and character to her performances. She has proven this on the sublime new album. Although I am yet to hear it in full, it really hit me straight away that she was so much more than a tribute or replica act. Rather whilst possessing some of Garland's musical ways, Stella has her own identity which shines through with such a sweet charm I find very appealing. I hope others come to discover this lady and her amazing artistry. She is the real deal, and it shows in every note she sings and every song she makes so specially endearing.
Dearest Stella - these are the songs I grew up listening to and playing at dances and in smoky bars, and crying into glasses of cheap booze in a corner booth. It is SO wonderful to hear them from a beautiful young woman with a fresh and lovely voice. Keep up and straight ahead!

Superb performance from Stella, she really made it sound as if it was based on personal experience. What a voice !. The piano from Michael Kanan was also outstanding, such delicacy of touch.
Jerry Weldon is on the album I have discovered. Tenor sax player extraordinaire. He has played an integral part with Harry Connick Jr.'s band for years now amongst other famous performers including singer Mel Tormé and guitarist/singer George Benson, guitarist Earl Klughand as a brilliant solo act on his own. To have people like Jerry feature on your album speaks volumes. I am hoping my copy will come tomorrow. Trying not to sound arrogant or conceited but I know my jazz musicians and there are some top players on this release. Stella is just as stellar (sorry for the pun but it fits) as these cool musicians. Her vocals deserve the best accompaniment possible. Very excited.
This tune used to produce impatience. But credit Stella's phrasing and the life in Block's accompaniment (diatonically and dynamically) for keeping things moving.
