We will never know what actually happened after the Polar party departed from the last returning party. Cherry was definitely not the right man to send out looking for Scott and the others. He describes one day at One Ton depot as being a "very good day" but he "pottered around. Dimitri, Mears, Crean and a navigator with two dog teams should have been sent. I am sure that they would have gone further south. Crean and Mears used initiative throughout the expedition. A lot of "what ifs " for sure.

The Objectification of Will The lowest grades of the objectification of will are universal forces of nature, such as gravity and impenetrability. Individuality becomes more prominent in the higher grades of objectifying will, especially in humans. Individuality disappears in the inorganic kingdom of nature, except in crystals. Time, Space, and Causality Time, space, diversity, and existence conditioned by causes belong not to the will or the idea but to their particular phenomena. Causality is significant regarding time and space as it determines the order of phenomena and the appearance of different ideas in the world. Time, space, and causality are not inherent qualities of things but rather forms of our knowledge. The law of causality governs the order in which phenomena appear, ensuring that they do not all occur simultaneously and infinitely. The law of causality is related to the permanence of substance, as all phenomena are directed towards a common matter and must follow a rule for their appearance and disappearance. Time and space are related to causality as they provide the possibility of conflicting states and the permanence of matter. Matter is the union of space and time and is the common substratum of all phenomena. The understanding is the subjective correlative of causality, and matter exists only for the understanding. Natural Forces and the Principle of Sufficient Reason Original forces of nature lie outside the forms of the principle of sufficient reason and cannot be fully explained by etiology. Causality only extends to the conditions and laws under which forces manifest themselves. Still, the troops themselves are manifestations of will and are not subject to the principle of sufficient reason. Natural causes are only occasional causes, providing the opportunity for the manifestation of the one indivisible will that is the inner essence of all things. The principle of sufficient reason does not apply to the will, which is groundless and has no adequate cause for its existence. The Nature of Will and Its Manifestation The text discusses the nature of will and its manifestation in the world. The author argues that will is the essential form of all phenomena and expresses itself through conflict and striving. The conflict between centripetal and centrifugal forces keeps the globe in motion and exemplifies the universal conflict of manifestation of will. Motion is essential to the central body, which continues its rotation and rushes forward in space. The author proposes that there is a central Sun and that our solar system is advancing through boundless space. Matter is characterized by repulsive and attractive forces, and this conflict is the objectivity of will in its lowest grade. In the vegetable kingdom, will expresses itself through stimuli, while in the animal kingdom, it becomes necessary for the individual to seek out and select its food. Consciousness arises as a means of finding food and propagating the species. The brain or a large ganglion represents the organ of consciousness and the objectification of will. The world as an idea comes into existence with all its forms, including time, space, multiplicity, and causality. Animals are exposed to illusion and deception and are bound to the present. Mechanical instincts are guided by no motive or knowledge but appear to perform their work from abstract traditional motives. Clairvoyance is the penetration of knowledge into the vegetative functions of the human organism. With the entrance of reason, the serenity and infallibility of the expressions of will are lost, and error becomes possible. The Objectification of Will in Organisms The multiplicity and diversity of phenomena in which the will objectifies itself do not include the will itself as a thing. The will manifests itself in all phenomena but remains unmoved and unchanged amidst their diversity. Man is the most straightforward and fullest objectification of the will, but he alone cannot express its full significance. The complete objectification of the will requires the whole series of grades down through all forms of animals, the vegetable kingdom, and the unorganized nature. The inner necessity of the gradation of manifestations is expressed by an outer necessity in these manifestations themselves. Teleology in Nature The teleology of organized productions of nature is twofold: inner teleology and outward teleology. Inner teleology is the agreement of a particular organism's parts to sustain the individual and the species. Outward teleology is the relation of unorganized to organized nature or of particular parts of organized nature to each other for the maintenance of the whole. The Unity of the Idea in Organisms The empirical character of every individual is the manifestation of an intelligible character, which is a timeless and indivisible act of will. Plants express their whole character and are in their form, revealing the home, climate, and nature of the ground they grow in. Animals express their will to live more nakedly than humans, who can dissimulate their true nature. The unity of the idea in organisms is expressed through the necessary relation and connection of their parts and stages of development. The different parts and functions of organisms are related to each other as means and ends, with the organism as the final end. The Design and Harmony in Nature The design of organized and the conformity to law of unorganized nature are introduced by our understanding and belong only to the phenomenon, not the thing in itself. The outer teleology of nature shows itself in the support and assistance organisms receive from unorganized nature and each other, reflecting the unity of the one indivisible will. Just as an individual's empirical character expresses intelligibility, the various manifestations of the will in nature adapt to and accommodate each other, creating a universal consensus nature. This adaptation and accommodation exist outside of time, with each manifestation influencing and being influenced by its surroundings, regardless of temporal sequence. The Principle of Sufficient Reason and the Will The principle of sufficient reason applies only to the manifestation of ideas, not to the ideas themselves or the will that objectifies itself in them. Time is irrelevant to the original and adequate objectification of the will. Nature's Foresight and Adaptation Nature exhibits foresight and adaptation, with species adapting to future conditions and organisms displaying instinctive behaviors that benefit their survival. The harmony in nature extends only to preserving species and general life conditions, not to individual survival. The Inner Contradiction of the Will The inner contradiction of the will manifests in the conflict between individuals and natural forces. The World as Will and Idea The world is both a will and an idea; this philosophy unifies the macrocosm and microcosm. The Final End or Goal of the Will The final end or goal of the will cannot be determined because it lies outside the principle of sufficient reason. The Cycle of Desire and Satisfaction Individual acts of will have motives, but the will is groundless and endless in its striving. The will is never satisfied; every achieved goal begins a new desire. This cycle of desire and satisfaction is endless and characterizes all phenomena of the will. Human endeavors and desires are also subject to this cycle, and we are fortunate if we always have something to strive for. The rapid course of this cycle is called happiness, while the slow course is called sorrow. The Self-Knowledge of the Will When the will is enlightened by knowledge, it knows what it wants in the present moment but not in general. The only example of self-knowledge of the will is the idea of the world as a whole, which is the objectification and mirror of the will.

One of my school assignments is doing a short story reboot where I take a story and rewrite it as if it were in modern times, so I chose a retrieved reformation because instead of making him rob banks I'm making him a hacker because I hope to be an ethical hacker one day but I needed to listen through again.

R. Austin Freeman's "The Vanishing Man" is not directly related to Arthur Conan Doyle's "Lot 324." However, both authors are known for their detective fiction.
