After read through this comment section, I might just abandon the anime and read the manga instead Boys imagine the original show get a reboot, people are gonna lose their mind(shit) for sure, and I wanna see that happens
Soul Eater Not was not, by any means, a valued edition to the Soul Eater universe. It did, however, I believe, do a fairly good job at representing beloved characters before they became the characters we all know and adore. You can see it in the way Soul and Maka interact with each other- there's still the layer of their characters in there that we recognize, but the friendship they formed with each other and the others, the true depth of it, is not yet seen. I personally think this is a major part of what threw a lot of people off the NOT series. We're so used to the soul bond that weapon and meister share from the OG series, that to see them almost aloof by comparison is extremely jarring. (i.e. when they confront the Kishin in their final battle, Soul and Maka unanimously move towards each other without taking their eyes off their enemy, showing the trust they have and how much they'd grown to rely on one another. Compare it to the demonstration scene in NOT, where the barest hint of a nod from Maka is the only acknowledgement between them before 'battle', and it's rather disheartening, to say the very least.)
The scene where maka and soul fight eternal feather is one of the few times the English dub is better. The original blurs souls blade with a fight smudge where the in the dub it is nice and clear
Contrary to popular belief, I quite liked "Soul Eater Not" for the contrast. In the original series the readers experience the darker side to the world and get the serious tone. In the sequel-prequel you see the somewhat outsider version thats not all the dark that we are used to, and instead experience it from people who dont want to hunt witches and kishin (kiishin?), and therefore wouldnt be following murders and crime and training as much. Sure it still takes place at DWMA, but it gives context to what goes on outside of the EAT class to create a more complex world. One where people try to find their weapons/meisters, live life somewhat normally, and give life to the extras who walk in the background.
Sadly remembers that Death the Kid didn't show up as a student at Shibusen until Episode 6. But at least he showed up to uh make things symmetrical in NOT? And well, there was Liz and Patty
I'm kinda glad I didn't know this existed till now. Tbh, the art style is cute but it hurts my eyes. It just doesn't... fit them. I'm just gonna act like this is really NOT soul eater lamo
Idk I don't really like this anime, Soul.. just.. doesn't seem right. He's not as he was in Soul Eater. Plus, I only really wanted to watch this anime a little for Maka and Soul, but we didn't get much of them, I guess. Plus, the old anime style is much better. Maka's eyes just seem off, and the fact that Soul isn't wearing even a scrap of his old accessories make him seem like it's a whole nother person. The anime might be good to people who haven't seen So Eater, but I agree with the rest of the Soul Eater fans-- This anime isn't really all that worth watching unless you haven't seen Soul Eater. Other than that, I think the anime is pretty okay.
Most of the complaints for this series make no damn sense: “The artstyle looks different”; this is what the creator’s style looks like now, Fire Force has the same style and a reboot of the series would most likely have the same style. And Fire Force is proof that this new style works great in action-focused series. “The OG cast aren’t main characters”; because this is a side story/prequel that ran while main series was still ongoing; what’s the point of making the original crew the MCs when their own series is still running. “There’s not enough action”; again, it’s a side story to the main series which was still ongoing at the time; so this was used as an opportunity to focus more on world building in a slice-of-life setting; just read the main manga for the action. The only real bad thing about the show was the animation quality, otherwise the show is average at its best and forgettable at its worst.
