Love how you explain and detailed this wine, and I tried it after watching your video and loved it! I went back to Trader Joe's next day and bought 6 more bottles 😅
I wish this was still available at Trader Joe’s. I’m glad you liked the video, though, stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted on any other great Bordeaux offerings from TJ’s
Depends on how many bottles you bought. I’d try it after a year or two and if you enjoy it open up the rest. The quality is average for the price point in my opinion, I wouldn’t age more than three.
I just picked up two bottles yesterday. Was very surprised to see a TJs Rioja, not to mention a Gran Reserva. I imagine it is just Tempranillo. Very straightforward, red to dark fruits on the nose and palate. Nice ruby color. Good acidity and tannins. Remarkably hardly any notes from the oak, surprising since it is a Gran Reserva. Surprised it has held up this well given its 2015 vintage and aging. Tastes very "youthful" for a Gran Reserva but I would definitely buy again for the price tag! Cheers!
I’m stoked this wine has still been available, usually their reserve labels have disappeared after a short while. I’ve not tried a lot of Rioja’s with this amount of aging, but I agree that the oak aging didn’t seem too pronounced.
I personally enjoyed a half glass and found it delivered but finish was short. Ton of current, blackberry and touch of oak, but not a fan since it just fell apart after letting it breathe in the decanter for over an hour. I personally give a 6.5 out of 10. I also heard from a friend in HQ wine buyer changed and we won’t be seeing big selections starting in 2024. I’m sort of sad because I looked forward to cool releases every year. As far as who made this I definitely think it was Mondavi.
Informative thorough review. Impressed with your look and sense of style. Sophisticated and upmarket. Perfect for reviewing wine. Great quality video in a natural/urban setting. Keep it up!
The sharp tannins up front were very off putting. Way to "aggressive" as you put it. The finish was nice with some smokiness and tabaco. Maybe a wine that would benefit from decanting or letting sit a while to soften those tannins.
Another viewer said the whole wine fell apart after decanting for just an hour, even after my bottle “breathing” for almost 40 minutes that was my discernment of the tannins. Better luck next time I guess.
I feel like you had a faulty wine or wine bottle. This wine has medium tannin to medium + tannin (this is me stretching it), but it was very well integrated. I felt like this wine's tannin was not as strong as other cabernet sav tannin, but for $20 dollar I think it was easy drink to have. I agree with the video maker that it has a good structure, but the size of the structure was not big as other napa cabs that I typically see in the market. I wouldn't say the wine is complex compared to some of the wines you see that are priced over $50 from napa, but again good for $20 dollar napa cab
Once again, I really appreciate your support! If you haven’t already made it over there, I’d personally grab the Cab from Chile over this one, much more interesting!
I'm popping open a bottle of Trader Joe's 2021 Platinum Reserve Petite Sirah for tomorrow. I expected to be a bit dark and brooding. Perfect for a Halloween wine. Petite Sirah is my favorite varietal.
@@thewinerookie They had a sign that said "limited quantities". It was pretty good, rather fruit forward and fairly dry, definitely would have paired well with a steak or barbecue over the charcuterie board I had it with. Finish was a bit short but overall, a very nice wine. Take Care!
Definitely disappointed in this wine. The Trader Joe's Reserve GSM from last year was a 2020 from Paso. Very different % of Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes. Way better than this year's GSM.
Great vid with very informative details. I do appreciate Oregon Pinot Noir. Hopefully, you get to review some Pinot Noir from the Cali Santa Barbara area. Great suggestions on food pairings. Looking forward to the next one. Keep up the great work. Salud!
They can disappear quick, but they have many offerings for whenever you make it over to one. Feel free to let me know if you get one and what you think about it! Cheers!
