Is it only me? I am superb fans but i actually think that her performance of this ballad 1 many years ago in the curtis recital is way better. Yes, The showy parts of this and the coda is splendid, unrivalled. But the rest are not so. And is it just the microphones, i find the pianissmo parts too softly played to be comfortably audible or enjoyed.
Omg… in a middle level competition this performance full of mistakes, amateurish accents, loss of control and anti-musical choices would not have passed even in the preliminary phase…
I am her fans. But yes this is not as good as expected from her. Especially the easier parts. She has played this song many years ago in curtis, and that performance is way better in my opinion. I know it sounds impossible, but added to the fact that she uses a score this time and not when she played years ago in curtis, i actually believe she had, (in her frentic schedule with way too many songs and flights to cope with and not enough pianos to be found on the road), half forgotten this piece, and only have the virtuoso parts intact. She is essentially re-sightreading on stage the rest of the piece. That said, to be able to half sightread even an old song and a song as technically demanding as this, says a lot about how great and solid her artistry is. And it takes a whole different level of confidence and down to earth attitude and a real love for music sharing, for someone at her level and status, to agree to playing something in front of an audience when she wasnt 100% prepared and in top form. I have seen videos of her playing causally to an audience in the backstage, and playing casually while teaching a master class when, like she said herself, she dont know the notes (not dont know but simply have forgotten, i guess) Its awe-inspiring the way she, with all her fame, can play absolutely freely without pressure or stress. She is an example of what it takes to be an artist. Think about it, the real reason she is able to play less than stellar sometimes (when compared to pianist at her level, not when compared to me, of course haha) is because she had a real audience, instead of a bunch of critics. People go to hear her play beacause of how she plays it. Not how well she play it. They simply want to hear her play, perfect or otherwise. Because they love the way she play and that is all that matters. And that level of devotion is difficult to achieve, even if with mini skirts. Listen to many more of her songs. And the way she play chopin concerto 2 when she was only 7, like a real genius. Even at just 7 years old she has a maturity and musicality that cannot be taught. I have heard many prodigies but she is a whole other level. And listen to her interviews. You will find that she is a real artist. And, despite the miniskirts, a bookish intellectual.
OK, first time I've ever seen a cellist wearing gloves. And on the left hand, no less. And Yuja's interpretation and technical ability are unparalleled, as usual.
Those who are critical of her playing should understand that playing in an outside venue the soloist must adapt to the conditions, which in this case is most challenging. For me she does a grand attempt.
YUJA , ANASTASYA PETRYSHAK , & HOPPMAN ARE 3 AMONG 20 GIRLS I WILL MARRY PROVIDING THERE IS A SETTLEMENT REACHED BY LAW . ALL OF THESE GIFTED SHOULD NEVER GO WITHOUT 2 CHILDR4EN APIECE .
I was just blown away. The recording quality with the piano - the absolute musicality of Yuja (notes become compelling melodies, her famously nuanced dynamics, etc!) the conductor and orchestra giving the best interpretation of Gershwin, I can’t give it enough justice. All around musical excellence - like others said -Gershwin would be so happy, I’m thinking.
To me, the lovliest part starts at MIN. 20:24, "Andante simplce--Prestissimo-- Tempo one (so gentle nd sweet-- almost HEAVENLY). That swwet music to "charm the beast" (all except those killers slaughtering innocents in UKRAINE-- and elsewhere--they're truly "like snakes that refuse to be charmed" (Psalm 58:5). Psalm 49 also explain it....
And what did you say when the illegitimate (puppet) government of Ukraine was shelling the ethnic Russians in the Donbass for 8 years straight? Read the history, you'll find Banderist Ukraine had it coming, and more. They made themselves the useful idiots of a proxy war, sacrificing all their young men to the madness of the treacherous West. Ukraine is a lesson to the world. Don't trust the USA, Britain, France, Germany, etc. They are not your friends.
I EXPERIENCE A GREAT PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO YUJA AND HER PIANO…..AND THE ENERGY IT GIVES ME AS AN OIL PAINTING ARTIST, ITS UNBELIEVABLE, THANK YOU DEAR YUJA.
As a young college instructor I could only one record ---on one side the RACHMANINOFF Yuja's playing, on the other, a Brams piano concero. Every day I listen the the same record to relax in the evening. Now I find Rachmananoff's stuff not only "ethereal" -- but like being "fairly close to HEAVEN (where not one ever says, " I THINK I'LL BE SICK TODAY { ISAIAH 33:22-24 } Amen?
don t worry everyone....the time will come she will wear a gown...with snow falling on her thick mink coats in siberia ...like in the second movement...and then the furious finale...will require her to take it all off....everyone will be happy.....
Very educative performance. While both the orchestra and Yuya perform absolutely fantastically, as a whole the rendition doesn't come together. Here, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conservatively romanticist - and there Yuya, modern and daring. Not saying at all that either party is anything else but perfect, but they just don't melt together. Interesting. I assume that they did not have much time to practice together, as usual. (It's showing by the fact that they are, at times, quite misaligned in terms of tempo.) The greats of the great, nevertheless.
YUJA is one of the most extressive pianists who ever perofrmed--- watch her face as she really enjoys the "ALLEGRO MODERATO" playdfullness section gently swithces to the very gentle "LENTO" part. Hw sweet, how gogreous--- this music played so well---aren't we all very lucky to be alive at this time--- and experience a masterful orcehestral TOO? Praise GOD!
