1228 Parkway Art Space is the studio home of painters Julie Schumer and James Koskinas who exhibit their work locally and nationally. The pair also teach various risk taking expressive painting abstract painting workshops, occasionally including a guest artist instructor. Their workshops are designed to challenge and loosen up both the beginning and advanced artist alike.
In addition to workshops and other events, Julie and James periodically welcome the public to see the studio and observe their process. Check the calendar for details.
1228 Parkway Art Space is centrally located in the heart of Santa Fe’s burgeoning Siler Arts District and is just steps away from the wildly popular Meow Wolf.
I generally agree except I believe these people are not artists. They are hobbyists that do not want to take a risk. Any risk that requires work or commitment on their part. I also know that some of these people sell service to artists & use their photos that they took of your work or display. 😳 Art thieves can & are so rude today. Yes you who are out there doing your job must protect themselves. Great topic 😍👍😍
I am using Stonehenge 90 pound paper gessoed on both sides. It's a good all purpose paper for demos and I have also sold many works on paper on that paper. It comes in sheets or rolls.
You are correct in the fact that everyone has a right to like what the like. And also to have an opinion about what they like and don't like. Not everyone like my work. And when they don't I want to hear the different opinions. So... I also voice my opinions. And with that being said Its not this one particular artist. I just think abstract art isn't art. It's scribble.
Enjoyed watching you ! Can this be done on canvas instead of paper ? Would the canvas need a coat of gesso first ? Thank you ! I really love your processes .
Well as a response to you. Yes you are correct in the fact that one cannot compare these two different styles. As one is art and the other simply isn't. And I'm positive if you were to read my credentials I'm sure you would find out I'm not ignorant. If you tend to like and want to blow hard earned money on splatter paint then help yourself. I like the fine arts personally
Your lack of fondness for something is not evidence of its (supposed) lack of quality. Just because you don’t like abstract art, does not mean it “isn’t art.” People have the right to like what they like. I find merit it all art forms, not just one. If you like fine art, stick to that but minimizing and berating another’s work is childish and says more about you than it does about them.
There is a difference between scribbling/smearing paint and creating an intuitive abstract painting. There are other abstract artists here on YT for you to watch, yet, you hang around here? Also, it appears as though you do not know how to properly reply to other user’s comments, so you’re posting your responses as comments on the video 😂 Well done, Del. Well done.
Lol I'm not miserable at all. I would just feel better waking up and seeing a lesson of at least some talent like shoe tying or hair brushing, because this isn't art
Feel free to look elsewhere if you are not finding what you’re looking for here. RU-vid has an endless source of art-related videos and information. Remember, not all art has to be some brilliant showcase of technique. Some paintings are intended to be simple and uncomplicated. That okay.
Like I said before. It's business, not personal. I'm no Turner either. But at least I'm not on here teaching scribble and calling it an art lesson to adults
Well I look at it this way. If a 6 year old child can paint your work then it's not fine art. I don't many children painting a Turner, Rembrandt, .......
First of all, Turner and Rembrandt were representational artists, not abstract artists. Representational art cannot be compared to abstract art, as they are two entirely different categories created with entirely different processes. There are also different kinds of abstract art, as well. A six year old child cannot paint intuitively and if you’re so ignorant to compare an experienced artist’s technique(s) to the “work” of a 6 year old, then perhaps you have a lot to learn about the subject of art and it’s “diversity”.
Well I've been painting hyper realism for 25 years. And as far as Pollock goes, he wasn't good, he just happened to run across a desperate and rich group of people who were willing to pay what he asked. It's more about their lack of common sense than his ability to paint.
@@julieschumer7182 maybe so, but most l artists wouldn't. I wasn't trying to be offensive, but never got how a painting that looks like a 2 yr old painted it and then omg at the titles they come up with. Lmao
Art is a very broad subject. Just because you don’t understand it does not mean that it “isn’t art”. There are plenty of artists that do various forms of art, including abstract. I used to do mostly sketching and scenery but now I do mainly abstract, as it is an entirely different creation process. There is great freedom and a lot to appreciate about the process of abstract painting, which one would not understand if they’ve never done it. Just because something looks simple, doesn’t mean it is.
Vermeer was a representational artist. Representational art cannot be compared to abstract art. They are two completely different categories, created from different places, using different processes. Anyone with a basic understanding of art and its “diversity” would know this this.
You are so talented and generous! Thanks for sharing! I love what you call ‘veiling’. I’ve tried to achieve this technique blending my medium body paint and airbrush medium or water or glaze medium, but it’s always too opaque. Im getting very discouraged because EVERTHING keeps getting covered up and I want some previous mark making to show thru. What am I doing wrong? Help! ❤
Has RU-vid under-served your videos or did Cat's involvement suddenly boost your views?? Can't believe I've never heard of you til now? What you are teaching has been my almost singular interest for past two years on this platform, so I'm wondering. Anyway, I've learned tons already from others, but always interested to learn something more that might be new to me :)
In my opinion , and feel free to disagree, this is doodling. Nothing more. What I would describe as Process without Product. Sure, it's fun to do and it could be argued its therapeutic, but lets not mistake this for a serous pathway to a completed artwork.
Great exercise! We are all such visual beings, that we can't help being influenced by what we see & the desire to correct or try to make something conform to our definition of what is "good or right"! In working to make new new asemic scripts, I have been using my left hand with favorable results. The more we can let go of our results driven nature, the better & more successful our growth as artists, is!
You are both so inspiring. Life is a series of challenges and struggles, some large, some small and some which we embrace. Allowing yourself to fully feel, to reflect and to persevere despite the struggles is what makes for a life of accomplishment. That you are able to turn-lemons-into-lemonade is a testimony to your strength and your desire to allow the art to continue to flow through you. Thank you for being so transparent and sharing yourselves so fully. Wishing you the best of 2023 and beyond, good health, continued success and contentment.
