another quick fact about hognoses: much like your corn snake faked being a rattlesnake, hognose snakes will open a faux “hood” to resemble a cobra! if that doesn’t work to scare off a threat, they’ll typically musk and play dead because most predators would rather not eat rotting meat. they’re pretty dramatic about it too!!
Please make a video of how to safely leave your ball python or other reptile home alone, while making sure their temperature and humidity levels are controlled. Also fire hazard safety.. new BP owner in the next week or so 😭 I’m planning to stay home with her for a good week just to make sure she is good to go before I end up leaving her for work..
This video is for what we call “new comers”. I’m old school. Many people that are from that old school era don’t do gigantic enclosures. There’s a lot of good and helpful information on this video. But (respectfully) there’s a lot of misinformation here too. But this video is good for someone that wants a pet ball python for eye candy.

Reptifiles.com has a direct weather forecast link where you can monitor temperature trends over the past several months! There are dips in temperature, but they aren’t very significant!

Dubia having the glass doors is a game changer. They're also cheaper and offer discounts. I love the wood look of zen but ultimately decided to go 100% with dubia.

I've thought about getting a male hognose as a first snake because they don't get very long compared to the females and their unique scales feel so awesome. But thats not for another 3 to 5 years since I'll be moving over 4 hours away by the beginning of the year. Id hate to stress any new animal out by bringing it home then move to another new home a few months later.

Yes! Been waiting on this video! Going to try forest floor substrate, how much do you recommend in a 4x2x2 and do you sterilize it before it put it in your enclosure?
depends on the size of the bag! if you’re going to do forest floor I suggest mixing it with soil! you don’t have to sterilize the forest floor since it’s made for reptiles.

I love your honest opinions about these enclosures. I've got 4 dubia enclosures, 3 of them are the 4x2x2 and one is the 36x18x18, and I love them. Like you said, super customizable, a little tricky to get installed, especially the 36x18x18 (I had to look up a video on how to put the substrate bar in due to lack of clear instructions), and overall I love the way they look. I'll be eventually housing all of my guys in those dubia enclosures
loved this video! but rescue doesnt necessarily mean rehab. if you go to a reptile rescue they will usually do the rehabbing for you and will give you a healthy animal. that's majority of experiences anyway 😊😊
