I am 9 months out from my knee replacement and don't have pain but I do have the tightness and band feeling around my knee. I spoke to both surgeon and PT. After hearing video and reading comments, glad to know its not just me. Still have to wonder why PT and Surgeon act like its only me. I kept thinking maybe I have nerve damage or blood flow problems. I wish someone had a fix for this. Several people I know who have recent knee replacements do not have this feeling and sensation.
Thank you for all your videos! They have been very helpful. I am sure I speak for many when I say, I which you were located in Maryland. This Wed. I will be 3 weeks post op. My first PT app. My flexion was 60 degrees, now almost three weeks out, my flexion has not changed from 60 degrees. It feels as if there is a block that stops it from moving. I am very anxious about not having any movement after 4 PT appointments and all the work I am putting into getting it to move. When I try to do the heal slides, the knee does not hardly move. I am going to try to work the quad as you are mentioning in this video! Again, thank you so much for all that you do to educate us!
I'm 5 weeks PO. I have the tight band feeling around my knee all the time. Actually, I am on a FB sight, and everyone has this feeling. I asked the physical therapist about this, and she said many explain to her the same, but many have said, all of a sudden it disappears. I have a very knowledgeable surgeon which I will see next week. This is one of the questions I was going to address. I will say when I am inflamed the swelling is worse. I try to eat as healthy as possible, but when I do have a day where I have "cheated" I have much more pain and the tight band feels worse the next day. It was difficult today getting through my exercises as I don't rely on pain pills as directed. Only one a day. So, in short, I believe wholeheartedly inflammation is a huge culprit!
Croc sandals, in particular the model “Patricia” and “Patricia II” completely healed my plantar fasciitis. I have two pairs left and wear them everyday around the house. I am Mexican and live in Mexico City
Tony, not sure if you will read this response but I must tell you that I've watched and APPLIED most of your exercises for knee flexion. My patella fracture left me with 25 degree flexion at six weeks when the brace was removed and I thought my life was over! After six weeks of physical therapy AND doing most of your knee flexion exercises, I am now at 130 degrees! THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
When I sleep on my side my arms go numb. If I roll a pillow and sleep on my back I don’t have an issue, other than I can’t sleep long on my back and end up on my side. I think I should try this pillow! My husband thinks I’m pillow crazy, but I’ve been searching for the best for my neck. I also have chiari and get headaches. Hoping this pillow works!
Greeting sir Orthoscopic surgery was done for knee bending. Suggest some tablets or something along with stiff knee exercises to reduce daily stiffness and reduce the process of adhesion regeneration. I exercise three times a day and when I start exercising again, my knees become stiff. It's been 45 days since I started exercising. The knee bends 120 degrees due to exercise but then becomes stiff again and the pain lasts the whole day.
Does this mean I should stop taking ibuprofen? I'm 7 weeks post-op BTKR, still taking 2 tylenol and 1 ibuprofen ea 6 hrs, still have pain, but is ibuprofen doing anything?
I'm 3 years out from having both knees replaced, and I still have extreme stiffness and pain. My knees just didn't heal properly. I think my body produced an extreme amount of scar tissue that doesn't respond to PT. I bike, hike and walk every week but the stiffness and pain has never stop. If I could go back in time I would've never had my knees replaced.
I had my knees replaced 18 years ago and have suffered with this pain ever since. No one has ever addressed it. I’m constantly massaging all around my knee and feel a band. I’ll be discussing this with my physical therapist so glad you have finally id identified where my knee pain is coming from.
I had a left knee replacement on May 7th hospital 3 days. Physical therapy for 20 days and my left leg is still not straight would you say this is a complication due to surgery? I'd like to be able to do what you're doing I'm going to try it hurts because I can't raise my left leg real high anymore.
Isn't this rubber bands around my leg above my knee caused by nerve damage from the tight tourniquet they put on during surgery. No one has said a thing about this tourniquet nerve damage
Tony, your videos continue to be extremely helpful, as is your Facebook page. I am in Canada and was discharged from physical therapy in week 4 as I achieved 138 degrees flexion and 0 degrees extension. While these are great numbers and I am happy to have achieved them, my knee is very stiff and my walking gait is certainly off. I am walking around as much as possible - on average 2-4 kms a day and riding the recumbent bike about 5 kms a day now. Recovery is very tiring. I continue to do PT at home (stretches and strengthening ). The tightness is so uncomfortable. is it okay to use mild heat to relax my knee? While icing helps after a walk, I find a warm magic bag to be so soothing - thoughts?
I'm also more than two years out and that band sensation is only getting worse over time. I've had other injuries and surgeries where I've felt a similar sensation. In those cases it was scar tissue and once I was able to break it up I never had further problems. The only issue with that is that sometimes it took years to break up that scar tissue.
I've been watching your videos for about 6 mos, when I found your website... Have you seen any patients whose medial hamstring tendon is "snapping" in and out when I bend and extend my leg from a sitting position ? I'm doing more hamstring exercises and still work on my bend 2-3 xd...My surgeon gave me some sort of cortisone injection 3 wks ago and will see me again on June 10...he said in his 30 yrs as orthopedic surgeon he has maybe seen this 2-3 times and may want to go in Arthroscopically to see what's going on...I hate to think of this after 9 mos of healing after TNR....thank you
Your the best! From day 1 of my research, I found your channel and you have taught me the importance PT is for our RCR. Continued success and I will keep you posted on my recovery. I'm 3 weeks post op massive RCR. I was so blessed to find a guy who really understands shoulder repair recovery. Take care Tony, all the very best! Sincerely, Joseph Adducci
I feel like you are talking to me knowing my main issue which is to be able to bend my knee. Thank you so much for your brilliant methods. I will definitely start using it.
I thought this myself. If ice helped my knee, it should look like a toothpick! I have iced my knee many times during the day for three months and it still stays the same. I'll keep on, because it feels good and freezes the painful area for a while. Thanks so much! I always look forward to your videos. 😊
Tony, I am looking at my third knee replacement on my right knee. I am a very active 59 years old woman. The 1st was destroyed by neglligence of doctor and especially rehab facility in 2006. Was able to get the 2nd done by a incrdible ortho dr Kirby Hitt at Scott & White hospital in Texas (I live in Florida) that was in 2009 and my knee has been great until a series of falls due to heart issues. I am scared to have the revision again, but has altered my life so much I am not enjoying it. Do you have any suggestions?
hey Anthony! I recently have a MRI that concludes I have reversal of Cervical lordosis, I have shakiness or tremors when I sleep, what exercise or lifestyle changes could give me some relief?

If the knee still hurts, is red and swollen, and feels weak or unstable it can be hard to get full extension. Are you with a physical therapist now? What does that therapist say?
