no american kid would ever want to play in loseapeg, theyve never won anything, they have the smallest rink in the league, theres literally nothing there, no baseball no football nothing just cold, snow and delusional fans. how theyve even managed to keep the goalie there in mind blowing
Eh dude! From a Habs fan, I can assure you we are very very very excited about Laine. Sadly for him, we have number 29 retired since 2007 in respect for one of the best goalies of all time, Ken Dryden. Patrik will wear #92. I expect him to be very average in pre-season when he plays. He will mostly play with different lines, testing his chemistry, it'll be quick shifts for everyone and he won't take risk to make sure he doesn't get injured, but when the real season starts, I think and hope he will be a power forward with steady linemates. I joked that he will get 64 goals & 35 assists for 99 points if he plays 80+ games this season, along with the Maurice Rocket Richard trophy. That would be the dream, but just half that will also be acceptable.
When the Jets were trying to unload PLD, there was a real probably he was going to end up with my Habs. Yet, in a twist of fate, it was Laine who ended up with my team. Let's just say I am relieved.
Most players can endure the cold weather if it is offset by being on a team that is competitive and if the tax burden is lessened. This is especially difficult in Canada with a federal government in power that is further Left than the NDP. Oh BTW, @3:54 - You spelled development wrong.
I laugh at Jets fans who still think we lost this trade and still compare Laine to Gordie Howe, and Jackets fans proclaiming him and Roslovic were gonna carry them to the cup. Dubois is Alexandre Daigle 2.0, ego above everything. I'm honestly convinced these 2 are the biggest cancers in the NHL, and I would not be surprised if the cry themselves out of their new teams at the end of 2025.
Well Washington is going to be better than Montreal this year and likely the year after. In 3+ years the habs should be much better than caps, who knows if the players will still be there by then though

@@Koersky nah well b better as soon as this year watch..we have 2 first lines now and lane hutson
2 first lines? You have one decent first line if slaf can keep improving and play like he did late last year. I’m rooting for laine to score 40 again but I wouldn’t bank on him being a first line quality of player, might be setting yourself up for disappointment. Especially considering he won’t have great line mates if he’s not on that first line. I don’t even wanna know what other 2 players you consider to be “1st liners”. It’s pretty unlikely Montreal finishes anywhere other then 8th in their division
I think Patrick will bounce back, he did not play bad in Columbus he just missed some time if he is healthy there is no reason he should not score 35 plus.
Pens fan here, I was surprised to see this trade happen. But I think it’s a fair deal. Pens get a guy that can play this year and Jets get a guy who isn’t ready for the next 1-2 years. Both prospects are likely to be very solid NHL players. Yager is just going to take a little bit longer before he is ready. I will say though that Jets fans should be excited about him, his shot is unreal and he is very def. responsible. Good two-way center .
I think it’s a good trade for both teams. Yager is from Saskatchewan so he shouldn’t have a problem with Winnipeg, closer to his family, right shot center. I don’t want to jinx it but possible future captain material? McGroarty didn’t want to sign with Winnipeg so he goes back home to America as well. I’m a Canucks fan so I’m not really biased, I think? McGroarty might be the better player, but with Pittsburgh slowing down and such a shallow prospect pool I’m curious how that would turn out.
Pens fan here, I agree with everything you said. But I have faith in Dubas and his sneaky rebuild. I’m not delusional, I don’t think the Pens are going to be contenders anytime soon. But with all of the draft picks he’s brought in, and the 2024 draft class (they look like decent prospects, obviously nothing generational) it has potential to be a quick-ish turn around. Time will tell. But Yager will be, in my opinion, a very good 2C.
Thinking solid 2C player that’ll put up near ppg at peak, and has a 2 way ability. Absolutely massive add. All his tools are already pretty decent as well, unlike rut who does struggle with skating. Potentially a low end 1C but I think that’s pushing it. Unless he’s along side high end wingers perhaps lambert or Vilardi.
Some good analysis. Penguins got what they needed, a guy who can slot in now for the next couple of years and possibly play alongside Sid, and also possibly take over the team. Jets get another very talented forward who is more likely to stay - and may have a higher ceiling and a lower flower, in my view.
Jets got a WHL rookie of the year 2022 WHL champion last year A 2x WHL Most Sportsman like player CHL sportsman of the year last season Named to the Memorial Cup all star tournament team 2024 SOOO looking forward to the Saskatoon product to become a Winnipeg Jets!!! #RutgerWho
There’s a perception that Commish Gary Bettman will not have a Canadian team win the Stanley Cup. Jets ownership isn’t all in on trying to win the Cup. GM Chevy is too cautious in his job. A head coach hire is based on loyalty. The team is too conservative. Mark Chipman is always crying poverty.
All the players would probably be 'incorporated', and have a lot of advice from accountants, lawyers, etc. Thus, they would not be paying 50% in taxes...that'd be impossible. They should be, and so should all rich people, but I would think that as rich and connected citizens that they could get away with it (if they are smart). So, that argument is crap. Canadians are NOT taxed too much because we get much needed services from those taxes (we could start to allocate those resources better, but that'd probably mean a more centralized government and citizens here are so regionalized). In the USA you are still inadvertently taxed, it is just private taxes...you have to pay for services provided by private companies (more things are provided by private corporations in the USA). Which also makes life more expensive than in other developed countries (ex. paying for health care premiums). As a rich person this may not be an issue, but for a majority of citizens it is less than ideal. The cold is bull (especially since some cities are much more humid, aka Montreal and Ottawa). They play only half a season there. Some live year round others go home for the duration of the year (and our Summers are getting hot!) One issue may be that Winnipeg is a small city to go to and it is not close to other markets...that would be the only issue I see. Players that love the outdoors really enjoy playing/living in Winnipeg (Alex Iafallo).
the salary cap should be calculated on a sliding scale which is determined by the tax burdens of each team. buttman knows it and so do the 78% of the league that is south of the 49th. the NHL is a bush league till they make this right.
I wish the NHL had a mechanism in place that pooled all player taxes together, as a percentage of all player income, and withdrew that percentage from all players to cover the tax bill in both Canada and the USA. It would level the playing field for all teams and taxes would no longer influence their choice of where to play
I've been to almost every major north American city east, north and south of Denver. Winnipeg is by far the worst city I've ever been to. Filthy, expensive, everyone is poor, houses are in a irreparable state, roads are horrible, nobody has a clue how to drive, plus half the city can't even speak English, and the ones that don't, hate you for speaking English. I wouldn't send my enemies of war to Winnipeg, in fear of receiving a inhumane confinment conditions charge.
You're pointing to two players. One who was a bottom 6 player that signed back in 2016. And the other only signed in 2020, after not being signed after a terrific 2018 playoff run. Name a top 4 d-man who signed with the Jets as a free agent? Or a top 6 forward who signed as a free agent?
@@pomerlain8924 Perreault was only a bottom 6 forward later in his career. When he signed with the Jets, he was a top 6 forward, so he's the answer to your question, as is Paul Stastny- who was always a Top 6 forward with the Jets!
