Been waiting for this game a long while now- but unlike so many games, it keeps looking better and better rather than hope dripping way. Gameplay looks awesome, can't wait for a demo~
This looks amazing! It reminds me of this fossil digging game I used to play when I was younger, and the art style is so nice. Idk if you find this to be an issue but when your dialogue reaches the right side of the box it jumps down and can look a little jarring. I found a way to fix this by having the whole text be displayed but fully transparent, then you can iterate through it and make each letter opaque one by one. Let me know if that makes sense or if you even wanted a solution to this :P
thanks for the comment and feedback! I’m totally with you, and I like that solution. it’s definitely something that’s been on my mind but has been low priority for a while. I’ll definitely have to get around to fixing the text wrapping. thank you for the advice!
hey, just wanted to say I finally got around to trying this out and it works like a charm. you're a genius! thanks so much for the help -- I really appreciate it.
thank you! I fortunately already had an amateur coding background (self-taught, not very good, but I can get things done). I learned several years ago using codecademy. when it came to making the game, I just dove in. it's all just baby steps: I started with learning how to code moving a ball around with WASD. then I tried to do some modeling in blender, and just built up from there: rigging, animation, shaders, etc. lots of determination (and tutorials! so many tutorials!). I know it can be daunting, but working on a project will force you to encounter all the things you need to learn. I hope this helps :)
Thank you so much for the reply @@thegeolojosh. How did you come up with the story/game concept? Overall, your game looks lovely and I love the pixilated art style.
@@xella3525 no worries! I came up with the idea after I worked on a dinosaur dig in the summer of 2021. I wanted to make a paleontology game, but it took a while for me to solidify the “dinos digging up dinos” concept. a friend had gifted me a short hike earlier that year, and I loved the aesthetic. I think trying to emulate a specific style was really helpful in getting me started, too.
Oh that is awesome, an actual dinosaur dig@@thegeolojosh. AH YES, I was wondering what it was that made me think I had played something like that (though it was animal crossing for a moment). I love the art style!
this is awesome!! found your page literally last night and thought maybe the project was done. glad to see you still at it and am excited to see more!!
thank you for your continued support! I don’t have a date yet, but it will be out in the next few months. I’m working on a demo which will be out ASAP!
Can’t lie..thought that was a giant banana in the back of the truck for sec. 🍌😂. Absolutely loving this mate! Keep fighting the good fight, I’m proud of ya.
I just wanted to say the game looks amazing! Seeing the videos you made of implementing different things to you game have inspired me to continue working on my own projects that I abanoned, I wish the best of luck for your game, for me its an instant purchase as soon as it releases, good luck, youre amazing!
what a cool comment! seeing others work towards their goals has always been a major source of inspiration for me, too. I’m so happy to be able to pay it forward. best of luck to you with your projects, and thank you for the kind words!
Looks lovely! I'm excited to have a chill cozy time with this. The idea of discovering new fossils and driving through the rain has me more excited than I expected to be. 😊
hi everyone! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've made a video (editing is not my strong suit!). I've made a ton of really cool progress on GOODLANDS, and I'm trying my hardest to get a demo out ASAP so all of you can get a taste of the gameplay. I made this trailer as part of an effort to revamp my steam page, and I hope you enjoy it. please let me know in the comments below if you have any questions about the game :) thanks for all the support!
wow this looks so good tried it by myself but i cant get this "crispy" look. its always like with antialiasing... pls help if somebody knows how to do it
thanks! with the render texture, have you selected "none" for anti-aliasing and "point" for filter mode? other than that, are you using toon shading? the flat colors are pretty necessary in getting that clean look. let me know if these solutions don't work!
@@thegeolojosh ty for responding, actually i fixed it by watching another tutorial. it was msaa. it made like transparent pixels at the corners. turned it of and all worked. btw when is the launch of the game? saw it the first time and instantly want to play it xD
@@user-ly7vp5ng2z oh great! I'm glad you found a solution to your problem :) the game is coming out this year. I'm currently working on a demo that should release in the next couple weeks. thanks for your interest in the project!
Its not possible with a perspective camera, only orthographic. It helps to have a small fov if youre gonna use perspective anyway, thats what I am doing personally
