I have been prescribed Seroquel 300mg for insomnia. I hate it because it is making me diabetic. I have weaned off of it down to 100mg. It's been rough trying to sleep. Really rough. I want off Seroquel altogether. It's horrible.

I'm 16, diagnosed bipolar disorder at 13. I went to the hospital. They started me on a whole bunch of antipsychotics, abilify and trileptal, seroquel, risperidone, zyprexa, etc.. They did close to nothing to help with manic episodes, yet they continued to feed them to me. I was on and off antidepressants, which probably made my mania worse. I was in the hospital 4 months, came in 117 and in about 2-3 months I was on zyprexa. These meds have caused me (short term) weight gain, severe akathisia, involuntary movements, etc. They finally found a good regimen. Lithium helps with my mood, whereas layuda helps my mild psychosis. Latuda barely has any annoying side effects besides akathisia and drowsiness

My Mum is taking it with antidepressant called brintellix. I dont know why she has to take it? Even the brentellix. She was diagnosed with post traumatic shock after a urgent surgery, she has been on them since 8 months, and its not very good. She is still not going well, we dont see any improvement. She used to take zoloft which really helped her but this time she got the brintellix, the doctor said that its a more modern drug.....we dont know what to do...I myself have some experience with zoloft, benzos and paxil. So I know that only she knows how she feels....

Haven't watched yet, I'm assuming your gonna say weight gain. But are you not then perpetuating a myth, that this is a side effect, yeah you'll gain weight. Will you explain the mechanism that causes the weight gain, I suspect not

I'm a new grad RN and just had an interview at a local prison that ended up feeling more like an orientation than an interview, so I would say I have a good chance at landing the job. I have had one clinical experience working alongside a corrections nurse and it was one of my most impactful clinicals just for how different it was. I could physically see the difference I was making in this vulnerable population's lives and I loved that. I've got my fingers crossed, but there are of course a lot of anxiety over the unknowns as I am just starting out. Your video really helped me paint a better picture of the job so thank you for sharing!

Serotonin can have some influence but it can also cause negative effects in large quantities same with norepinephrine they are modulators with both positive and negative effects

I wish psychiatric places would treat patients like this more. I got hospitalized a few months ago and anytime I had a freak out or panic attack they just beat the shit out of me. It was so dehumanizing. Didn't matter if I was scared, or angry, or panicked and trying to escape, the solution was always for them to hit me until I stopped moving and then put me back in my room. My stay there did far more harm than good for my mental well-being, and I can't help but think the outcome would have been different had they followed these guidelines.

Hi sweetie! I am both mentally ill and have a certification in Recovery Support and I have been fighting the system my whole life and still am. I have gone as far as contacting our mayor here where I live among other resources to talk about the abuse in the system and ways to better it. I respect you man for what you do and I am sorry good doctors have to go through all this crap. I am however happy that I am not alone in fighting this bs system now and have much love and respect for you sir.

It is way too over used and we need more say if we want to or not want to take meds. I take psych meds right now and it is not doing crap for my disabilities and causing me physical problems and I am just so sick of the guinea pig testing.

Her parents are driving her cuckoo cuckoo. Every nurse in every specialty can see exactly where behaviors comes from during visits. She knew exactly what she was getting because she spit it out. They watch the other pts, the addicts are master manipulators, stand and beg for anything they can get over and over. Then the rest see it and come.

Just a suggestion: since you’re a psyc nurse and see many patients who are not always in their right mind, it’s better to not film a video with a little kid in it. Just to avoid your patients looking up your personal profiles and avoid anyone potentially harming your child. I know not all patients are like that but just for child’s safety

Thanks for your honesty. Meds have their place, but less is probably much better than more. And support that lifts these people from poverty (common sense if you ask me) may be even more beneficial. Psychiatrists know this is true, but many times they like to play god, and don't have the courage to not tow the line. Ultimately the patient pays the price. Shame on them......

I've been off of paliperidone(invega) for about four months and I still can hardly feel coke, crank, and Adderall. I can feel about 10 to 18 percent of the effects. I was about to commit suicide until one day, I was able to feel coke again. Coke actually saved my life! Everything you do on an antipsychotic, or any other potent antagonist, is to get rid of severe anxiety, boredom, and stress. I will, for the rest of my life, tell everybody to never go on an antipsychotic. There is literally nothing wrong with doing drugs... regardless of what your governor, preacher, president, government, or society tries to tell you. Drugs are one of the few things that truly makes this life worth living.

This is dangerous to say that you hope this study from 60 years ago has "convinced" us that schitzophrenia may go away on its own. There are many people who will hang their hats on this to avoid treatment and not have the best life they can have.

My fiancé is currently in a clinic going through his third psychosis, he is diagnose with schizzoaffective disorder, he has to take quetiapin for 24 years and not at clinic is treated with a mix of zyprexa and quetiapin. His symptoms don’t get any better. He is in this state of mind for 3 month now. Somewhere between manic and psychotic I am deeply concerned and worried

Check also for Drapetomania was a pseudoscientific diagnosis created in the 19th century by American physician Samuel A. Cartwright. He introduced this term in 1851 to describe a supposed mental illness characterized by an irrational desire to escape from slavery. Today drapetomania is considered fraud. GASLIGHTING is still used today to misdiagnosis mental illness.

I've taken antipsychotics for about 25 years now. I did gain a lot of weight. Also, though not discussed, I developed type 2 diabetes and hyperlipidemia (Metabolic Syndrome.) What scares me the most are the involuntary movement disorders, such as tardive dyskinesia. The antipsychotic I've taken the longest is Seroquel. I've tried the majority of the atypical antipsychotics + Thorazine and Stelazine (first generation.) Only Stelazine and Risperdal were truly awful for me. After the first night taking Stelazine, I had all types of dystonias taking place. With Risperdal, by the second night, all my muscles went into spasms with rigidity. So, you're correct. These medicines can't be taken lightly. Only take them if you absolutely must! My diagnosis is Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Type.

When i was a kid, me and my friends had a severe drug addiction. I quit everything even cigarettes but i had a paranoid psychose they put me in mental hospital then they gave me 10mg Zyprexa velotab. I personally loved the medication cuz i could never sleep (also autism) now i take 5mg Zyprexa in total i use for 21yrs now.Me and my doctor know it's not healthy but i can't live without.
