Its late to the party - and I'm a guy so I only shave my face, BUT I can say dont apply too much pressure and key is the angle. Try around 30 degrees or so. Also helpful to use a nice a good shaving soap. Also the blades are important so choose a decent set of blades. A good all around blade IMO is the Gillette Platinum or the Derby premium.
Change the DE blade to super x YOU COULD BE USING TO SHARP A BLADE hope this helps or try other blades till you find one you like also use a shaving soap with high butter and tallow it's made for the job you can also get vegan shaving soap let me know how you get on
I don't know if you're still giving this a shot, but I've noticed many people try to do single long strokes while shaving, when a single blade is best with many short strokes to cut hair. I use a folding straight edge and the trajectory of the blade will have to change to the curvature of your surface. You try to cut straight through the curves, you'll cut skin.
