Loved your video. Great job. I am wondering your opinion on the mm3 smarty touch tuner for 2004 ram 2500 5.9 common rail is it a good tuner or are there better opinions matter.
It has been so long I don't remember. I may have been putting the airbags back on. I know those won't fit if you put the block on top. The other thing is I always like to have the most simple setup. Having U-bolts made is easy and cheap.
@@DarksideDiesel right on. I did the same thing on my gen 3 and just reused the stock ubolts with the spacers put on top. Was hoping to accomplish the same thing on my "new" gen 2 lol
Man, some of us are searching for this stuff for a reason. A guide, or good video. And here we are, exactly what I need, and I’ve gotta pause and slow it down because you put all of your videos in 300x fucking rabbit mode..
One thing. So all three things you did were: drop shackles (do you remember the length?), block removal and overload removal. Sound right? My 2wd 3500 Dually as WAY to much fender gap, its many inches. Thanks again for getting back!@@DarksideDiesel
They were two-inch drop shackles. I did that first and it wasn't even close enough. Then I took out the overload and blocks. That really made it perfect. I couldn't believe how much higher it was in the back on the 2wd compared to 4x4 trucks. @@CreamyCornCob
That is correct. Also remember you want to make sure your wide open shifts are at the correct rpm after adjustment. They should be around that 3,000-3,200rpm mark. The looser the cable also means the lower the line pressure for your clutches. Only make small adjustments.
3 years later and this video is still helping people man lol i was all worried with this truck i bought thinking the trans was going out. Fluid didn't look too dark and isnt slipping so figured it had to be something simple. Thanks man!
Were did you get this u bolts from?? I installed the same 2” lowering shackles and removed the lower 1” block but i will be removing the top helper spring and top block because now the truck is resting on the helper springs making my rear suspension rough but at this point i just ran out of threads on the factory u bolts, thanks for the help
That clip is supposed to let the cable self adjust. You put it on without pulling on the cable. When you go WOT it pulls the cable adjustment through like a ratchet if it's too short. The problem with mine was the cable was sticking and not retracting. Some repeated sprays of lubi-doobi at the top and wiggling at the trans finally freed it up.
That's what mine did, 3.9 magnum but same cable, ya? So I used this vid, first in search results, bc I couldn't remember how the clip went, and noticed as soon as I pulled the clip it sprung back a bit, I put it back on and sure enough, throttle all the way down and maxes out on the trans side, just where it should be for initial adjustment
It can be caused by faulty wiring. Bad battery connections. BD makes a noise isolation for the TCM on those too. Clean all your battery connections and grounds. Put on the BD isolator. This is the most common I see.
Thanks for the video saved me a lot of money and time the white clip was completely missing on the truck i jus purchased we put a screw in it to hold it temporarily an made sure that fixed it now we have a new cable coming!
Excellent turbo dynamics! Sadly, I cannot say the same for the DPS customer service. I sent the turbo back once due to oil flowing out the exhaust and intake, coating the tail pipe with oil as well as the intake manifold. Second call back resulted in no return calls. Same engine, stainless turbo from HT at 150k mi netted only oil to the intercooler, so the turbo is the only variable in pushing oil through the turbo. I use about a quart of oil every 300 mi, when I would use about 2 qt every 5k mi before.. Doesn't matter how good the idea is if the new turbo can't control oiling....
@@AmericanPieLightsOut "sounds like an installation issue..." - typical ambiguous deflection. Clear drain tube of seller's choice, stellar crankcase ventilation, unobstructed line from turbo drain to crankcase, vertical flow line... and you think you have enough to blame the install without this information. You must work for the company who doesn't want to stand behind their product.
@@AmericanPieLightsOut and you still think you're qualified to claim install issue, with no information about the install? The railroad needs wisdom on their crews, not delusional stewpidity like this that will get someone killed.
I have a 04 3500 4x4 dually. Does not drop into 1st, start out in second. Is this a symptom that this adjustment could fix? My first attempt was to install new GP Solenoid, transducer, speed sensor, filter, new fluid and adjusted bands. Still not dropping into first.
@@DarksideDiesel could this cable being out of adjustment cause my truck to start out in second?? When it finnaly shifts the 3rd at like 2500 rpms it almost immediately shifts into over drive lmk if this could be my problem
@@chasewarren5852 usually second gear starts are caused by a faulty governor solenoid or transducer. You would need a scanner to verify. If the TCM is seeing pressure at 0 mph it will cause a wrong gear start.
You could have cut the license plate screws so that they didn't stick out the back of the mounting tabs instead of drilling more holes in the roll pan.
The 68RFE may be have weaknesses. But most people that burn up the transmission on an empty truck. Do so because the transmission is not in 1st gear. The 4BT in a Ram, could still be excess power. But back when the 5.9L had less power than today's VM 3.0L. 6 cylinders may have been okay. I saw a RU-vid video with a medium duty version of the ZF-8 speed. So that ZF-8 speed, a 300hp 4Bt, with the same differential ratio. Would most likely do burnouts just as good. Change you differential gear ratio to 3.73 or 4.10. The 68RFE would do just fine. As long as a you use an ATS pan and the case brace. Because the case is the weakest point. I add a quart or 2 of 0w20 synthetic motor oil. The shifting in hot or cold conditions improves greatly. Because automatic transmission fluid is a lousey lubricant. Or you could use the Trans additive from Hot Shots Secret. And use the EDT, which is, every day treatment. Cleans the injectors, lubricates the pump, disperses water, and takes care of those devices you probably deleted anyways.
I'm having a problem going up hills with a load. The last time it happened my od light was blinking, I used to have a problem with 1 2 shuttle shift but after my friend adjusted cable I dont have that problem anymore.. what do you think i have going on?
That could have been caused by low line pressure. If he pulled the cable tighter then line pressure increased and may have kept it from shifting back down and up.
Nice video.. so my question is I have a 1995 dodge with the 47rh and at wide open throttle is taking to long to shift at 3000 rpm, should I loose the cable to make it shift faster and a lower RPM?
If you don’t have fuel upgrades like governor springs it will take a long time to get to 3,000rpms. I would lower the shift point if your 12 valve is all stock.
