I want to thank you for this video. Found you just at the right time. I have a 1996 16 foot and am getting ready to delve into the water system and get it working again. I found some GREAT information here. I do need to find info on my older tank water heater but this video got me excited to get started. I'll be subscribing and watching more of your content. And checking out your product links for more information. A *BIG* thank you for this one!
Thank you so much for replying to my message that I left I look forward to continue watching perhaps you could do a video on electronic brake setuplol I just got the electronic brakes and I have to figure out how to use them now now LOL😂 have a good night
Yeah you're pretty amazing very inventive era MacGyver I just bought a 2024 Scamp like you have in hope you don't mind but I'm going to copy what you're doing and I want to thank you you have been amazing and you have a beautiful dog I have a 190 lb Rottweiler and he's kind of used to the tight spaces so hopefully he'll be able to fit in front of the refrigerator LOL
Awe you flatter me. Feel free to copy away! That's why I share it with everyone. If my pup can fit yours probably will too. I hope you both have a ton of fun out there. Happy Scamping!
I bought a 2018 5 years ago. Same scenario as yours, customer never picked it up. It was a layout 1-no bathroom but a bunk. It was discounted because of this. I’m pleased with it but wish I had the wheel on the tow bar! Great video.🤙
Great review. The discussion about the outdoor shower was surprisingly very informative...onboard water, energy to heat, etc. all dissuade use of the outdoor shower. This is something I am considering as I compare the Scamp to other fiberglass trailers.
Regarding tire pressure ... I have the same model scamp with tires of the same rating. The 50 lbs. max pressure is the cold tire pressure. You are safe to inflate your tires to 50 lbs/in2 before you start out. I like to do this to get the least rolling resistance and the best mileage from my tow vehicle. It's best to check tire pressure early before the sun hits one of the tires and warms it up raising the pressure and possibly resulting in an error in the actual "cold tire" pressure reading. That's nit picking a bit, but equally inflated tires reduce wear and any tendency to pull to the softer side. One of the most impressive things about the 13' Scamp is how easily and effortlessly it tows behind a vehicle; even a relatively small one.
Thanks so much. I was always taught to leave a lil wiggle room. But Google agrees with you! Thanks so much for bringing that to my attention. I appreciate you.
@@LandseerNorth you are so welcome. Glad you found me. I hope the content here will help paint a much clearer picture for you about these adorable lil trailers.
Hey we are picking up a sample lite 13ft in three weeks we got the back up camera does it run off the trailer battery 12 volts? Again love you videos actually lots of common sense
Thanks so much. I can't speak on the Scamp Lites but in my 13 the camera is wired into the trailer's 12v battery system and the monitor has to be plugged into the tow vehicle's 12v outlet to get power. Hope this helps. Enjoy your new trailer and I hope you have many amazing adventures with it!
@@BackcountryDirtbagyes that’s exactly the info I needed I will have to set up a solar like you I don’t think I will be able to charge towing cause I’m using a 2016 outback the scamp lite is basically like the 23 just no tanks or sink or frig
@@tfptalowahfishingpaddlinga3742 rad I bet you'll be able to off grid for as long as you want with a set up like that! You could prob fit 200 watts on the roof without the AC in the way. With that much solar and nothing to run but lights and a fan you'd probably never need to plug in. What a luxury that would be!
Thanks for the rec! I lucked into a great deal on a Gofort when they were crowd funding and it's been flawless for 4 years now. So when that one finally dies I'll look at the Power Queen. Thanks.
Nice video: I went to the scrap yard tapped into the awning brackets with 1/8 inch alum. angle and glued an angle iron on sideof the roof ac..........just instulled 2 renogy 100 watt panels........came out nice. pics upon request
@@BackcountryDirtbag I recently tent camped and want to buy a camper. On my shortlist are: Scamp, Casita, Tab 320. I have eliminated others due to cost, weight (I have a Subaru 260hp Outback).
@@twowheeling3214 all great trailers! Good luck with your search. I hope you find a perfect little adventure pod and get out to use it often. Happy camping to ya.
It can feel like that for sure. Yet when I factor in that there are still Scamps on the road and in use out there that were built in the mid 70s, I think the investment is worth it. The price spread out over 50 years of amazing memories seems more than worth it to me. Plus they retain their value so well you could use it for a few years and get the majority of your money back when you sell it. Few other RVs can do that.
Duffy Lake TH to Santiam Lake was 5 miles. Santiam to Little Bowerman Lake was 4.25 miles Back to Bowerman Lake was was only .25 of a mile Bowerman back to the TH was 7 miles. I don't think the time it took us to hike it would be a helpful assessment to you bc the Golden retriever we were hiking with had to stop and rest a lot more than normal. They were just starting to hike again after surgery on one of their legs. So we took it REALLY slow for their sake. Caught a few small Brookies that I released back. Nothing big enough to eat. I had just started fly fishing then. A much more experienced angler could catch a fest in any one of those lakes.
I seriously love your videos. THANK YOU. I finally found my fiberglass rv--- a Trillium 1300! Thanks for being such a positive and informative person to learn from.
@HZInTheWild you're welcome! I'm so glad you are finding useful info in the vids. CONGRATULATIONS on your new trailer 🎉 How exciting. I hope this helps you feel safer and more prepared out there. TY for the positive comment and encouragement to keep at it.
We just bought a new 13' Scamp and am loving all the info! Thanks!! We got the brakes but not the expensive control Scamp offers. Could you expand a little (brand, model) on the key fob controlled wireless electronic brake controller. I am not finding it among all the online options. Is it the Curt Echo? That one seems dependent on mobile phone coverage. Again so appreciate your work, it is a confidence boost to get out there with some knowledge!
@guillermocuellarpottery4079 that's awesome! Congrats on your new rig! I hope you have SO much fun with it. The brand mine came with is by Autowbrake. There is a great video on how they work here: getautowbrake.com/products/autowbrake-trailer-mounted-electric-brake-control?srsltid=AfmBOorG1XVIe4AurRwO9FTgj3DiO5yVDizinssAyqx5wmAvJ9AB4jkk Hope this helps!
(Previous comment didn’t post. My error I’m sure.) I have a 2021 13’ with a bath, brakes and controller and several other items you mentioned. I agree with most of your takes on what is worth it and what is not. Several of the options you and I paid extra for are now standard on the 13’. Brakes, 27 battery, plug in electric, glass top stove - for example. One odd change is that it appears you can only get the larger bed in the deluxe. I didn’t want the extra weight of the wood, but the larger bed was a must. Glad I don’t have to make that decision now. I’ll subscribe and see what else you suggest for Scamp.
Ooof I'm glad I didn't have to make that choice either. I would have loved a 3 way fridge option instead of all electric. Seriously considering swapping it out. Thanks for the sub and the comment! I hope you enjoy the channel.
The 3-way fridge is great. That fridge was standard in mine. Other than the AC (that I also don’t use much), everything on mine will run on battery or propane. It seems many trailers are moving to all electric assuming people will always have power. I think that’s too bad.
That's how all my previous rigs were set up too. It was way easier to stay off grid longer that way. I'm not a big fan of the change over to all electric either. It's tough to have enough solar mounted on such a small trailer and suitcase solar isn't my favorite option. But there's always a way to make it work.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and ideas. I’m going to retire in two years and I want to order my Scamp now! I need to determine what I really need!
One point I'd like to add since this vid is specific to the Scamp 13; and apologies if I'm wrong or if you've covered this. We too have the electric only fridge that knows when to toggle from 120V to 12V. I think like most folks we prefer to run our fridge when moving from place to place, but to do so we found that the main electrical switch must be in the ON position for the fridge to pull 12V power. So after we power down everything before travel, switch our main power to OFF and pull the plug, we then hook up the tow vehicle, test running lights, etc. and finally power the trailer back ON to get power to the fridge. Are we doing something wrong here?
I don't see anything wrong with your system. The only thing I do differently is that I don't turn the battery switch off when I unplug. I just kill the breakers on the campsite power podium before I remove my 120v cable. Sounds like you are just taking an extra step to be super safe while unplugging.
Someone posted this video for me when I had a question about my rv battery system and I immediately thought “ I know her”. Did you used to skate Vans back in 2002-2003?
Is there a way to plug in an electric generator inside the camper rather than running 30 amp cord from the outside...mostly for traveling so you can run the refrigerator longer??
@@richardjackson3358 yes you could isolate the refrigerator by plugging it directly into the portable power station for much more efficiency and longer run time. When the power station only powers the fridge you bypass the trailers converter and built-in charging system that get used with the 30 amp cord. So you wouldn't be adding to the trailer's battery charge level or powering things that get switched on like lights, fans, or pumps. All those would still run on the trailer battery. But the trailer battery would last longer with the fridge running on the power station since the fridge would be removed from the 12 v system and plugged directly into the power station. Plus the power station would last longer bc it would only power the fridge and not the whole trailer. It's the most efficient way to do it. Great question.
@@nancynoname5979 you're so welcome. I'm glad you found it helpful! That knife is great. It's the one I keep on me while camping and it's been incredibly useful.
Great video for everyone even none Scampers. You should add a section at the beginning about hooking up the electrical and the importance of plugging in with the breakers off and using a surge protector & post it out for all TT/RVers, especially us newbies :)
@@johnarmstrong9485 thanks so much! I have a whole other video covering RV electrical systems here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvo0q-5HhCM.html
@@cherylbaker6129 that is a highly requested topic for SURE. I was saving up for a drone to help get a better vantage point before filming that one. But the demand is so high I might need to get more creative.
backing a trailer takes practice and experience. The longer the tongue on a trailer, generally the easier it is to back up; i.e. the slower they turn in response to your steering. Scamp tongues are short, but if you're easy on the controls, they back up very easily and smoothly. Go to an empty parking lot and practice, practice, practice.
Quick question - I noticed around the 17 minute mark, when you were backing into your campsite and started reversing, that you didn't remove any anti-sway bars. Do you use them? If so, I thought I remembered reading somewhere to never back up with anti-sway bars on. I just want to make sure I get it right so figured I'd stop the video and ask this question. Thank you so much for your videos. I've learned so much already and feel more confident each time I watch a video of yours.
I am so glad to know that the videos are helping to build your confidence! That's what it's all about. I don't use anti-sway bars with my Scamp. I don't find them to be necessary for the 13. I just try my best to balance the weight of the load evenly throughout the trailer. I haven't had any problems with sway.
Hi! Love your videos! We are shopping around for a scamp similar to yours and I have a question about the fridge. Is it possible to load it and turn it on while on the road?
Thanks so much. My fridge is all electric (not a 3-way fridge.) I plug my trailer in to cool the refrigerator down before I load it. I make sure that my drinks and things are already pre-chilled before loading them into the scamp fridge. Then the alternator in my tow vehicle is enough to maintain the temperature inside the fridge while I drive. Once I'm at camp I either need to plug back in or use supplemental power sources like solar or power stations to keep my fridge from draining the trailer battery too quickly.
Do you think the 100N gas strut that you recommended is too strong? I have looked at some other videos and they recommend a 20N or 40N. Thoughts? Thank you.
Question: Now that you have had the toilet paper holder for a while, I'm wondering if you have found that it keeps your TP dry even while using the shower. Thank you for your reply. I keep pausing your video(s), to click the amazon links you have posted! Lots of great stuff in my cart :-). I found your channel while reading comments in a fb group called Women Who Scamp. SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! Your videos are extremely informative and you get to the point and give all the information needed without rambling on for 90 minutes. Love your channel and am a new subscriber.
I wish I could give you more insight but I still haven't used the shower in my Scamp. I prefer to just go for a swim or use the campground facilities. But I can say it does make a fantastic place to set a phone down to ensure it doesn't fall into the black tank. I use it for that every single time.
Great video, you earned another subscriber. We have a Casita so very similar FGRV and I have to agree on most of these items, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze on some of them. I too am surprised at how little propane they use, I figured it would burn more with the furnace, stove, water heater and fridge (both when in gas mode) all using propane but they sip it and the dual tanks is pretty overkill. It blows my mind when I see some trailers with the twin 30# tanks but different strokes.... We love the outdoor shower and we've found that we use it more as an outdoor sink with the use of a QD flexible neck faucet hookup than we do with the coiled hose and garden sprayer it came with. I have used it with the outdoor shower tent a time or too after dirt bike trips but it's rare as I make good use of onsite shower facilities to avoid having to dirty up mine haha. The toilet in our camper is for number one only or number two only in extreme circumstances when there's no other option. Regardless of manufacturer, fiber glass is the way to go when it comes to these smaller trailers. We've been customizing ours all year and so far it has been fantastic. We have some big trips coming up this fall and we are looking forward to using it on those travels.
Haha "the juice isn't worth the squeeze" that's a new expression for me. I love that. I will say I have started to use our outdoor shower as a dish washing station and I may have spoken to soon on that one. I had not thought about tweaking it tho. Thanks for that inspo. Isn't it so fun to dial in these lil trailers to our own specific needs? I never stop thinking about more things I can do with mine. I hope your upcoming trips all go smoothly and you make amazing memories out there. TY for the comment and great suggestions.
My pleasure Molly, I'm happy to help. It sure can be confusing. I'm glad to know my videos have helped you understand things a little better. TY for the comment ☺️
