I'm guessing this isn't the original Bardahl Special that raced in the late 60's. That one was built up specifically to beat Daryl Greenamyer's Bearcat. A lot of good Merlin's gave their lives in that quest.
I was there watching this race, Dreadnaught had an intake valve fail the banging was backfires in the intake. After plane was in the pits you could see the air intake scoop top of engine was bent up from the backfires, rest of engine all OK, but had to be repaired there.
Flying in that magnificent fighter plane with my brother Chuck in the 60's was and still is the most exciting, adrenal slamming rush I have in my audio visual memory bank! The memories of sounds and smells as I was tucked behind him on a little board with my parachute tight, bring tears to my eyes to this day! I am gleeful behind words that its flight history is still being written by its wonderful new owner and pilot.
Wow!!!! Thanks for posting and filming this, no need to criticise people!!! Seafury and Centaurus rules, need some smellovision please. Centaurus sounds and looks super happy to me. Some more please 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for this trip to times gone by. These craft were beautiful then. And in their rarity, even more so now. PS The 25s penetration of the clouds and eventual egress was so like an apparition form the past. Stunning photography. Truly.
My uncle flew a B25 gunship attacking Japanese shipping of the china coast….his aircraft was shot down off Swatow china …all souls were lost. Truly the greatest sacrifice
Sorry, I had to mute the volume; the idling Cessna was getting to me. But great video! On the audio: I kept remembering the video here of the Luscombe trying to land at Riverside and the background audio that was with it: "Apple! Aaaaw!...Apple Paltrow!...knock-knock...apple...knock-knock...apple...knock-knock...orange". Thumb-up if ya know the video. Aside from that, love Sea Furys. Ya gave 'em hell!
I remember back in 1986 there was a complete B-25 Mitchell at a gas station in Stormville, NY and I was fascinated to see it as I had built a few model aircraft of it! A few years later I drove by and it was no longer there. I hope it is one of the ones that are flying at air shows.
Scott is the best. We just shot another video with him to make the follow up video to this one. Our B-25 is now restored as an Air Apaches Mitchell with an epic bare metal scheme.
'Smokey' is accurate but not in the context you describe. The Centaurus is not your Granddaddy's V12 found in his P-51. This one is well taken care of by the shop that knows the most about taking care of Sea Furys. Thank you for your concern but your expertise does not qualify. :/ Edit: Don't take the sass personally I am having a little fun responding to so many comments. I do appreciate your viewership and leaving a comment. You may counterpoint to defend your honor. :)
No problèmo...! But I have never seen à Centaurus quite so smokey on idle (and believe me I have seen a lot in my time) as this one. Its running far too rich...
I really want to like this video - the audio and flying are spectacular - but what’s wrong with the visuals when he’s doing aeros? The aircraft seems constantly out of focus 😢
Yes I agree. With the sun and the viewfinder it was hard to tell if it was in focus or not at distance. Most likely you are referring to the stabilization I added in post. It is the slightly better alternative to the super shaky original footage. The only good note is that I used a high quality shotgun microphone to capture the Centaurus sound. I appreciate the sound criticism it is much better than most. Thanks for leaving comments on my videos it helps a lot!
Dennis is one of the best and it is a privilege to be sure to witness greatness like that from both the pilot and plane. Thank you for your kind respects.
Flawless crisis management, energy management, decision making, and piloting! Applause are in order!! I have visited Dreadnaught and the Sanders facility many times. Such a nice family, very down to earth. I hope this incident is soon resolved.
