Nice pickups.👍For years, it was the 1987 Topps Football and the 1987 Topps Baseball sets. I hand pieced each one together, one card at a time, until they were completed. Those were the first cards I remember collecting as a kid, and I wanted to build those sets. Honorable mention goes to the 1989 Topps Baseball set. That one didn’t take me quite as long to complete.

Well the 1987 Topps baseball set was a nice looking set kind of reminded me of the 62 set but it wasn't very hard to put together. The 1987 Topps football set is a real nice one because it does have the first NFL rookie of like Jim Kelly and some other players in there that may get it a nice little set. Thanks so much for watching 👍

Great pickup especially with the graded cards! Agree that Bonds and Clemens were HOFers before ever using. PED. What do you think of the 84 Donruss baseball set? My LCS has one for around $70 and the three big rookies look to be pretty sharp.

@@vintageonvintage817 I haven't sold a 1984 Donruss in a while or bought one in a while but a year ago or so that 84 Donruss set was selling for around $100 on eBay plus shipping so I got to imagine that $70 seems pretty fair. Thanks so much for watching 👍

Poor Howard Porter passed away in St Paul….trying to get his life on track….Colclaugh is the ‘pride of Quincy, MA’ I’ve been told…..Terwilliger coached the Saints here in St Paul well into his 80s….Boog Powell hit a Big Papi-like HR to the bullpen at my first Sox game….so I’ve always been a bit of a fan….nice video….nice cards

I noticed that you didn't mention Rich Allen on the Dodgers which is a SP and I would bet it will be one of your toughest find. The superstars you need should be easy to find , it's just do you want to pay the price. 71 Topps baseball are usually easy to find on EBAY, COMC, or your local card show, and I agree that in my opinion 1972 Topps baseball is tougher to complete than 71. One last thing, I love the backs of the 1971 OPC, the design on back is fabulous !
@vintagesportscardfinds964
@vintagesportscardfinds964 2 месяца назад
Funny you should mention Allen because I recently acquired his card along with some of the other key cards including Ryan and Aaron in a purchase I made from the reviewer of the channel. I was able to pick up half of the cards I needed and some for the 1972 set. Although the 72's were not nearly as awesome. I think their is a video of the purchase on the channel. I agree with you the OPC cards for 71 are awesome. They are much better than the dull backs on the Topps version. Again, thanks so much for watching and all the insightful comments 👍

I am 87 cards away from completion!! Great set but quality control was a huge issue then with centering. I am like you as I do not worry about it too much as long as they have good corners, no creasing or writing.

Very informative video on the 71 set. I feel your pain as I just completed a 72 topps set and dealing with the high numbers, lol. I will work on 71 when I finish 73 and 75. Thanks for the video.
@vintagesportscardfinds964
@vintagesportscardfinds964 3 месяца назад
I need so many of the high numbers for 72 that it'll probably be the last set I complete from the 1970s. I recently picked up some big cards for the 71 set and the guy I got them from said he had more 72s than he had 71s, but he had 18 cards I needed for 1971 and only four or five from the 72. Those high numbers from 1972 are a quest. Thanks so much for watching and supporting the channel 👍

People underestimate Topps high numbers in value. Story goes the stores didn't purchase last series of cards cause they had so many left over from earlier series
@vintagesportscardfinds964
@vintagesportscardfinds964 3 месяца назад
That makes sense and the high numbers for 71 are much tougher to find for sure, but I think the 72 high numbers might actually be worse because I'm having much more of a devil of a time finding those. Thanks so much for watching 👍

You are lucky. Usually if you got a VG or a VG plus there’s creasing in the cards. And that seems to be listed on every site that lists cards.
@vintagesportscardfinds964
@vintagesportscardfinds964 4 месяца назад
Yeah this turned out to be a really nice lot. I was thrilled by the condition for sure. When I list cards on eBay I try to under grade so that when the person receives the cards they're usually pleased. So for example if I believe the card is near mint, I might list it as excellent to near mint or if I think it's ex I listed as vg-ex. But you are correct that some people list cards in VG and they're not really strong cards and many times they contain creases. To me, and this is only my opinion, I consider a VG card a card that has rounded corners maybe, but no creases. If a card has creases I usually listed as G or low grade. But again this is all in my humble opinion. I'm not sure how the grading companies rubrics set their cut-offs for a VG card.

Tony Oliva's RC is '63 Topps. There are some exceptions, but most cards with the ASR trophy on them are not going to be true RC's - especially after 1962, as they were usually on a multiplayer card first. In Tony's case - they actually gave him two like that - '63 Topps (where he was "Pedro" Oliva) and then again in 1964. Lou Pinella actually had three of the multiplayers - in 1964, '68, and '69. They finally got big and gave him his own card (with the trophy) in 1970.
