I've got a brand new one.. in the box.. never had line on it. Thing spins like a top.... A smooth... And silent spin. Was wondering the possible worth. I have it's twin also with old line on it. Not locked up... It's a spinner also.

Useless vidéo. Waste of time. Hiw do you cast? You are talking to yourself and praising the product, but no practical information.

Judging from the other comments here, I'm estimating you created this video and sales post in 2017 or about. The sale (eBay) post is long since gone. I have this exact four-screw 2650 reel in very much the same exterior condition as yours.

I used my Shakespeare Executive 1992 for the first time yesterday. I was fishing for carp to test the drag. It performed admirably, so I will definitely take it to Canada fishing with me next month. See my video of it in action at time marker 10:03 in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W_zplYf8iNY.html

Hay man my millionaires 3h high speed the knob on the left side with the numbers under it fell off in some water anywhere I can find parts for these? Or is there any special way it has to go back on ? Like is there a brass bushing under the knob keeping the reel spool in place?

I acquired a Shakespeare Executive 1992 today. Now I have both reels you showed in this video. I had to disassemble the Executive as it was pretty balky. It was dry as a bone inside and needed proper adjustment. I took your advice to avoid buggering the screws. As luck would have it the screw were all pristine and not tightened. I cleaned and lubed it, gave the level wind worm a shot of oil, and now it runs like new. Looking forward to taking it with me to Canada this summer.

I have that same reel. That reel is so smooth. I used mine to catch a lot of fish last year and plan to catch even more with it this year. It's operating so smoothly I don't anticipate the need to do a lube job soon, but it's nice to see your video to see it done.

Too cool!... Just be sure to keep an eye on the crud that builds up in the level wind carriage screw (worm shaft) and on/in the pawl/pawl cap...
@ddselvig
@ddselvig 2 года назад
@@tmacanic I inspect the worm shaft on a regular basis. You are so correct in that respect. A dirty worm shaft can make a bad day of fishing in relatively short order.

Yes... There may be some minor differences but, basically, it's just bigger.

Watched your video and got some really good info from it. I was able to go out to eBay and find a Direct Drive Model QU for a little over $20. It's in very good condition for the price I paid. Looking forward to using it next spring.

Very cool!... Just remember it's very old-school technology so your thumb is going to need to be trained to be a LOT more sensitive to what the spool is doing than it would with today's reels and anything less than about 1/2 oz will be close to impossible to cast... All you have is spool shaft pressure to adjust... There's not so much as centrifugal brakes in there much less any magnetic system to help control the spool... It's all on you and your thumb with a little help from the spool shaft pressure adjustment (VERY little, if you want any distance).

@@tmacanic I spool my vintage baitcasters with 15-20 lb braided nylon (the vintage stuff). I spent a lot of time earlier this year learning thumb control. You are right. It takes a fine touch to master these vintage reels. I have yet to get a backlash with my Pflueger Akron and Shakespeare Marhoff. My Pflueger Supreme 510 will sling a 2 ounce weight 45 yards, so it has a lot of reach when I'm bank fishing. Love those old reels as most of my fishing is bottom fishing using a 1 1/2 oz sinker on a slider rig. I adjusted the spool tension knobs to put the most minimal pressure on the spool axle. They do the job well despite their limitations.
@tmacanic
@tmacanic 2 года назад
@@ddselvig Yup... If you're throwing that much weight and the reel is lubed/dialed in properly, there won't be a problem... The biggest issue was the level wind pawls/worm shafts because people didn't keep them clean/oiled properly so the wear would make the pawl hang up on the edge of the worm slot, gouging/destroying the worm shaft... Or, when they did try to keep them clean, they would loose the shim under the pawl (if equipped) which created the same excess pawl/worm clearance problem. It's one of those critical dimension things that kept bait casters (and level wind reels, in general) away from the salt water market for decades... Just too much maintenance required (for Joe Average anyway) for salt water use.

What is the difference in the 4 vs 5HM reel, spool size? Are Abu parts interchangeable, read somewhere they were?
@tmacanic
@tmacanic 3 года назад
According to my schematics, the 4HM and 5HM use the same spool - part # B33-9402

These are weird. Why can't I find more info on Evinrude Excel/Johnson Ultra outboards? There is almost NOTHING out there about these things. Were they imported or something? They don't even sound like normal small OMC's. And the whole throttle on the top thing is weird.
@tmacanic
@tmacanic 7 лет назад
They should be like every other small-bore, 2 cyl, two stroke that JohnRude built, from the 60's on up. OMC Factory manuals cover them very well. (at least, mine did). The only real differences in any of them (of any year, 3-5 hp) were whether or not the fuel tank was integral and/or remote (gravity and/or pump fed), style of recoil starter, throttle actuator style, lower unit style (full shift/no shift/neut-fwd, std/weedless) and cowling style.

so these type of older reel anti reverse is not silent like moder reel? it made clicking soud is normal?
@tmacanic
@tmacanic 7 лет назад
Yes. The silent anti-reverse systems did not become commonplace until the early 1980's and some reels, even today, still use a click-type of anti-reverse.

Once you pack the housing with Peen Reel Grease it is quiet. I'm assuming this reel is either void of grease or the grease is old and solid. You simply can't beat the old original "greenie" and first "Z" generations of reels. They JUST DON'T WEAR OUT!!!

I have also discovered that the drive pinion yoke (the part that lifts the spool drive pinion gear off the spool for casting), is also worn out so, even with the new level-wind pinion, the reel is still not useable.
