It’s so weird, because VF, whenever I see gameplay of it, looks so unimpressive. It’s all floaty and loose looking. It feels like there’s no oomph to the hits and no weight to the characters. Idk if that’s just me
I feel like you guys have only seen the first two vfs, but if you see how other games in the series played you might be able to understand why it's so popular. Sometimes watching competitive vf gameplay can feel like watching a fight scene in a movie. Plus a lot of the reason it's so popular in japan is because of how hard it is to master the game compared to other 3d fighters. Also it probably looks unimpressive due to the lack of hit effects, but if you play the games you can feel those hits.
@@ezronco.8671 Fair point, I'm sure it feels great to play. I saw footage of VF4, though, and it still seemed super weightless. The lack of hit effects surely play a part in that.
Why I thought Tekken did better in EU was that arcades weren't really a thing over here. Instead fighting games were pretty much exclusively played on consoles and since at the time Tekken was the most popular fighting game on the most popular gaming console (PS1). This transitioned to PS2 and its Tekken games. So naturally Tekken's popularity was much higher in EU compared to Asia or NA.
In Denmark I literally didn’t know a single soul with a Sega or Nintendo console, growing up between the late 90’s and 2000’s. Everybody had a PlayStation and everybody knew about Tekken
My problem With the Series is since Tekken 6 the Series always have the same aestetics. Also Tekken 8 looks like a better Version of Tekken 7. There is no unique style anymore. Thats why i love Tekken 4. The gameplay is Not perfect But the style is unique and realistic.
So TLDR: "I'm not as good as you, but that's the game/you being dumb. Anyone that beats me is stupid and makes no sense. It's never me and this is stupid". Basically, this guy (the guy complaining most of the time) is either LowTierGod's brother or a distant cousin of some kind.
even at the time I didn't know, not much information accessible like it is today with internet, but one thing is for sure, I see in arcades, nobody is playing Tekken 4, people are instead playing Tekken Tag, you'll that Tekken 4 intro over and over
Tekken 4 was very impressive for that time when it came out then next fighting game that impressed me was virtua fighter 5 on the ps3 which still looks really damn good for ps3 for 2024
Wish they would just make the best of both worlds and give the competitive players a flat square map or octagon while other maps were like tekken 4 with obstacles and all.
@@joehill7916 yeah, i love that the Jun Map kinda had that vibe again of, walls are just really fkin far away. Scale was so cool, but the obstacle and people around made it weirdly realistic. Also we need more bangers in T8.
Tekken 4 failed because everybody loved Tekken Tag and was confused as to why they got rid of half the characters. Bearing in mind that Tag was released on PS2 a year or two before 4.That's why they brought most of them back in Tekken 5. Namco may have been focused on making Tekken 4 like Virtua Fighter (although personally I think it was an attempt to make it more like Dead Or Alive), but they put so little effort into the roster that it just feels like an enhanced version of Tekken 3 with a handful of extra characters (and no Jack for some stupid reason).
That and the gameplay felt lacking for a lot of competitive players; movement felt off, combos were shorter and not as flashy, uneven terrain and addition of walls which weren't well implemented caused issues, and much more. People didn't like the gameplay as much alongside a boring meta with Jin and Steve dominating, so people just went back to Tag.
