Nice explanation. We just had an incident where our 110# German Shepherd had an adverse reaction to Cytopoint.. I am an nurse but not a vet. tech--things looked "off" and needed immediate attention. This explanation helps in defining the differences between the species.
Very interesting. I’m currently being investigated for mild thrombocytopenia and awaiting ultrasound scanning of abdomen and neck. I was concerned that my first Covid vaccination might have triggered this, so I’ll wait until more is known. Thanks for your very clear explanation.
My Malamute has fatty tumors. He has one under the skin of his neck. He coughs when it, has , I believe, put pressure on his wind pipe. This is a dry cough and this is not a hard tumor. I can move it around and I do so to give him some relief.
I have a 3 year old EPI dog who was diagnosed at 5 months of age. We've found that low fiber and B-12 supplementation really helps. The magic number according to the EPI4dogs foundation, is 4% fiber. We switched to a 4% product and my poor dog has been doing very well. It was really a struggle to find a food product that worked for her. We probably went through a half-dozen brands of kibble.
What were the results of the test if you don’t mind me asking? You have literally explained what has happened to my dog word for word. Everything from how she presented normal but with a slight fever, to the xrays being normal and the abnormalities in the ultrasound of the liver. I would be very interested to see what the results of his liver biopsy were.
I’m searching all videos about this topic. Our dog today suddenly started having violent seizures. After the 3rd one within 2 hours we took him to a 24 hr vet because ours was closed for July 4th. He had another while there and after doing his blood work, the vet was confused because she had never seen what they found. He has ZERO platelets. He went from perfectly normal this morning to having these seizures almost every 30 min. We have no clue what tomorrow is going to bring as he was kept overnight. The nurse said a platelet transfusion was an option but with him having zero, more than likely his body would reject it. Very sad day for our big boy. He is 6 and so gentle and playful with our other dogs
Look into Papaya leaf extract, that’s one of the things I’m using for dog that had low platelets, along with Quinton plasma ( 1 part of seawater and 3 parts of distilled water) .. do some research on Rene Quinton
My dog collapsed today when my mom was walking her, and she couldn’t walk or do anything she was just laying there. Right now she is at the vet. she is a Pražsky Krysarik, it is really sad because she is only 6 years old and turning 7 in august. They have a living time of 14-15 years old. Edit: My dog is doing fine and is stabilized, she is still at the vet and my dad/mom is picking her up tomorrow. And then we will know what was wrong with her
My dog got a blood test, the results showed that she had a platelet count of 50,000. And liver dysfunction and tick fever. Her temperature is 105, after we started cooling her down and giving her saline, her temp came down to a 103.9. The vet gave us medications. My dog is 10 years old, a miniature Australian shepherd, female and neutered. She's obese, weighs 26 kgs. Me and my parents used to live in America, we came to our native country, India. We bought our dog with us. Here the temperatures are very hot and humid. Its difficult to keep her cool, please give me any advice to help us increase her platelets count. The vet told us to switch her diet to help the liver function properly again. Please help. And how can I reduce her weight? She doesn't walk regularly, she's not active at all. It's difficult here in India. Thankyou
My dog has a identical condition. The vet recomended blood transfusion. I cant afford it. Would cortizone treatment be more affordable? It's his third day on Clauvulanate Amixicillin and Im feeding him a chiken liver puree and plenty of water to try and give him strength.
My cat has sterile nodular panniculitis and is on Atopica which has helped tremendously. It took almost 4 years to diagnose. It wasn't until we took her to Dr. Miller at Cornell, that it was finally diagnosed.
Hello. My cat is currently following treatment for what is suspected to be panniculitis. Tests are still being done to determine the cause. I would like to know if your cat had to stay with an Elizabethan collar the whole time during the diagnosis.
@@saifrhymansaib9761 If it is panniculitis then it is an autoimmune disease and the collar will not help it to heal because the body is attacking itself. Where is/are the open wound(s)? My cats were in the inguinal region and I put a gown on her to keep her from licking it. I also used steril saline spray to keep it clean.
@@theresahouseknecht1923 The open wound is located on the abdomen. The wound was closed several times with stitches but without success. It is now left to heal by second intention. The draining nodules are being treated with anti-inflammatory pills and antibiotics, although it is still empirical since tests are ongoing. I put a collar and a baby onesie to prevent him from licking and to protect the area. I clean the area with saline water everyday. How is your cat doing now?
@@saifrhymansaib9761 unfortunately she passed away of a thromboembolism. I miss her very much. We found her on our property. We believe someone abandoned her. I pray you find a diagnosis soon. Don't hesitate to switch veterinarians if you are not seeing improvement. Atopica worked beautifully for her and her once very large inguinal wounds were down to only one the size of a dime when she passed. Don't give up it's worth it. Panniculitis is a very rare disorder. I was unfortunate to have a dermatologist that cared more about making money then helping my cat. I had to do the legwork to finally find a diagnosis. I took her to 3 universities to finally find the cure. Cornell was a blessing that I wish I would have found sooner. They are wonderful! Dr. Miller has retired but his daughter Julia Miller is there in Dermatology. Best wishes to you and your sweet furrbaby.
@@theresahouseknecht1923 I'm so sorry for bringing this up. I know how it feels to lose such a cherished member of the family. It's honestly the worst situation a pet owner has to go through 😔. I will do anything to help my kitty overcome this, and it's comforting to know that it's treatable. I have already switched between 3 vets. The problem is that this condition is so rare, and none of the vets from where I live (I'm not from the US btw) have ever seen something like that. We also don't have a lab which can determine if it's caused by those atypical infectious agents before coming to the conclusion that it is indeed a sterile panniculitis case. I'm researching as much information as possible and discuss the right treatment plan with the new vet. I will surely mention Atopica on the next visit. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
My dog has been diagnosed with Canine sterile nodular panniculitis (he is a 9 year old Bichon). Our vet did all the necessary testing to verify it was not bacterial. He has been on Atopica (orally) for roughly 5 weeks now. His sore like spots have healed (the ones that had burst) but he is still getting inflammation beneath his skin. Do you recommend the DOXYCYCLINE/NIACINAMIDE??!! I am so worried every time I feel a new bump I automatically think tumor and cancer.
There is no one simple answer for best treatment for sterile nodular panniculitis. Drug selection depends on the patient, the level of their disease, and their response to therapy. There are several treatment options (all along the theme of suppressing the over active immune system) of escalating potency (and commensurate side effects). The first goal is to control the event - then taper to the lowest - least medication that keeps the symptoms at bay. Some pets will need some level of medication for life. It is important when tapering - or de-escalating the medication, to do it slowly. Talk to your vet about the protocol that will be best for your pet.
My dog was just diagnosed with sterile nodular panniculitis as well. Any help on diet, supplements, medication, etc would help greatly. There is hardly any information about this disease process.
My dog had a similar situation recently, with his leg swelling 3x it's normal size. Turns out there were 2 boils around his "elbow" area on his front left leg. They had to be lanced, gushing infected pus, causing the leg to shrink back to normal size. He had to have painkillers and antibiotics to be back to normal.
Hi i took my dog to vet she has one front leg swollen took her to 2 vets theyre saying shes retaining fluid giving her lasix and prednisone but can see any improvements
