Used to be the best school in the world. I was there 84-88. Thankful for the experience and the life long brotherhood I’ve had the honor to have is bar none the best.
So very grateful to have attended this fine academy. I needed discipline in my life and boy did I get it. I also got a network of Brothers that would do anything for me!! RIP VFMA!
I was there in 79-80 Alejandro Marquez H-6070 Company H with Coronel Puyans, Captain Bisono, Master Sargent Contreras, Platoon Leader Williams & Gonzalez, Staf Sargent Nunez & Bizard, Old men Wise, Krummenacker, Walton. Cadets Hunt, Stephenson, Stevenson, Stella, Rugerio, Barrios, Eckert, Vandervilts, Balza. It was a great experience with ups and downs but at at the end very good. Looking at the video brings very good memories.
VFMA and JC 67-71 - "Send us a boy and we'll give you a man" is correct. Once you get through the plebe stage and learn to go through the motions, you're going to be 0K provided you steer clear of trouble. However, it's up to you to make something more outof it. As with everything else in life, you won't get any more out of it than you put into it. Opportunities are there. I wonder if they still serve mystery meat.

They publicly honor you, yes, but they also publicly shame people, at least they did when I was there (98-00). It's not necessarily a horrible place, but giving "rank" to a fifteen year-old and having him lord that over others is generally not a good idea. Made good friends, but had the most antagonistic relationships of my life there. I think the place has softened up since my time there, for the better to be sure, but I'd still think twice before if you're considering going or sending your child.
You were there 98-00 and you thought it was tough? LMAO Good thing you didn't go in the 80's. I visited after I graduated and was shocked how soft it was and that was in 82. It's not for everyone but if you have leadership skills they will help you develop them.
I went to a couple of military schools in the late 80s-early 90s. In what way was Valley Forge tough? I can tell you that at my other schools the name "Valley Forge" was spoken with awe. It had a reputation as the toughest military school in the country.
@@adaher Toughness is relative. I went to NYMA prior to VF. NYMA had a plebe week or something like that. If you went to a military school before going to NYMA, you skipped plebe training. At VF, it didn't matter if you went to another school, you went thru plebe training. Also, you're a plebe for an entire year. NYMA had no "Honor Council" (basically a Cadet tribunal) NYMA was a joke compared to VFMA, basically a regular prep school, you just had military uniforms and parades. VFMA was more disciplined and the chain of command actually meant something. This video must have been made in 83 or 84. I see my old Company commander in it with regimental staff rank and some of my other classmates.
This is where I watched a guy cut his wrists and wrap himself in a sheet. Year was 89-00 We were both in "H"company building. This is single most worst place you can send a child. If you want to ruin a good mind, send them here. Remember the choir "chaplain" Maybe Capt Tinan? maybe you do, be glad you don't.
Hey Tallardy! I remember you. Which Cadet was this? There were a couple attempts when we were there. Sadly, Bowman a close friend of mine succeeded a couple years after Graduation. I don't think it is the School as much as it is the person. Yeah, things were hard, but I think you are being just a bit harsh on your assessment.
Scott Tallardy I graduated in 1986. I recall there being several suicide attempts. A terrible place for a middle school kid. This place is not good for mental health.
Sears 6404 I was there only in 85 and 86 and remember one of the guys being asked to be in this. I forget his name, but he was the one who said he came from another military academy.
I was there when they filmed the movie, the entire Corp took part in the filming. For a period, we filmed during the day and took classes at night. Instead of ness hall food we had catered meals and Kraft services. It was actually a pretty cool experience.

Jack Napier it's a great school many of the cadets have different opinions some hate it at vfmac and some love it once you pass plebe system the school is pretty cool you'll absolutely meet some of the best people you'll ever know and they'll be your brothers for the rest of your life but like I said once you pass plebe system which is why some cadets hate it so much you'll make some of the greatest memories being a cadet and attending vfmac
