I think the 'ooh Roger Palmer!' chant came from the electronic scoreboard which would flash up 'ooh!' whenever there was a close chance and then often followed it by flashing up 'Roger Palmer!' when the man himself had put it in the back of the net. At least that's where I've always thought it came from! Thanks for the memories and a rare interview of the man himself! If only that backwards header against forest had gone in! Time stopped for me and half of Wembley at that moment!
Yeah but come on all them chances it should have already been 6-0. 1 Mrs Morley There's only 1 Mrs Morley 1 Mrs Morley Best away support I have ever seen though on that day. Respect WHU
Harsh decision against Whiteside, and I say that as an Oldham supporter. Not sure about that penalty decision either - looked like a simple collision to me.
@@oldhamathleticmemories1358 my dad played in the first leg for Darlington, young player at 16 anderson, he went to Middlesbrough at 19 in first divison, he always talks about playing against Earl Barrett for Oldham who was a top defender, brings back great memories cheers
I've been trawling through Everton games of this era to see if I can find me and my dad. He died this summer ...1.47 , there is he is sat next to a 9 year old me. 1.51 he's clearly not happy with the ref ( right of the screen with the tash) ! Thanks for the upload ! .....I remember this game having a really tense atmosphere, and my dad launching me up in the air when Everton got a penalty.
The greatest FA Cup semi final day bar none. Liverpool suffer a shock exit in a absolute classic then this brilliant encounter. Say this as an Everton fan.
The benefits of a plastic pitch. Utd got Irwin and we took Milligan - he was absolute garbage for us. Like Blackburn, all the fans coming out of the woodwork when they did OK for a few years. Which club has the least fans now? Like Luton and QPR when they had to play on grass they soon disappeared.
Bloody hell!! Forty years ago, and it feels like yesterday. God, I wish todays OAFC had a tenth of the belief the lads had back in the golden olden days.
Villa were top of the old first division then so went for that…..but unfortunately didn’t win it. Chance missed. They would’ve beaten Manure in the semis I reckon then done palace in the final.
Not forgotten at all, my friend! This was my first ever Arsenal game too. Was sitting right behind the goal when Wrighty scored that Pen. Gone are the days when you could check the kick off time on Teletext and just turn up to a match.
Latics got relegated because of the pitch. You can't play the sort of football they were capable of on a pitch like that. People used to say the plastic gave them an unfair advantage but in fact it gave them a fair advantage: it suited players who were fast, had control and passing ability, and played clean. It was amazing how many top-flight clubs struggled by those measure back then.
It cannot be overstated how the results of a couple of games would determine the course of history for the next two decades. If Oldham had won this Alex Ferguson would not have been the united manager at the start of the 90/91 season. Think about that
The 3 main games of this year's FA Cup were the most exciting of any era... 4-3 (Palace v Liverpool) and this straight after! Followed by the Cup Final... The most exciting Cup Final only ran close by ECL (2005) and this month's CRAZY World Cup Final.
It's just the League Cup, sold out to a sponsor who wants the name changed to theirs, if only the League said it must be the League Cup sponsored by whoever. But instead the Cup means less & less with sponsors changing ie Milk Cup, Rumbelows et al, who sponsors it now, Aldi? Lidl..
Proper legend. Appeared out of nowhere to score... so many goals. I probably only saw the last 50 or 60 he scored for latics as I discovered latics relatively late in life.
