@christal.haitai Месяц назад
Diet does matter, but not in the way people think. Too many people think they need to eat certain ingredients in an exact way or they wont live a long time, but that is not the case nor sustainable long term! It is important to eat clean, healthy, nutritional food...but hara hachi bu and a good social life are just as important. My point is is that most people hardly ask about factors other than food.

This is answer in conjunction with your other question about the importance of food. Do not worry about portion size too much, just eat sweet potatoes when you can in a way that you can sustain long term. The diet consisted mostly of sweet potatoes, almost 80%. But that is hard to do in this day and age. There are many things you can do to better your health, don't think it is only food :)

Thank you for your video. I recently found frozen mozuku in Australian Japanese supermarket. Is eating the actual seaweed better than a supplement? Or should I go for a supplement as it might be more potent?
@christal.haitai
@christal.haitai Месяц назад
That is so cool you found mozuku in the supermarket! Can I ask which supermarket? The supplement is more potent, but eating the seaweed is healthy, too, of course, and I highly recommend it. To get the benefits of one fucoidan supplement from raw mozuku, you would need to eat pounds and pounds of it though.

I am so glad I can just go to almost any grocery store here in Okinawa and pick up almost any variation of seaweed, or find it occasionally on the beach. I would think those false capsules would leave you feeling like waiting, waiting, and allot more of waiting till you know it was just a dud.
@christal.haitai
@christal.haitai Месяц назад
You have a lot of healthy resources at your tips so no excuses! But actually, in the case of fucoidan, a real fucoidan capsule contains a highly concentrated amount of fucoidan in it compared to raw mozuku seaweed. To really get the benefits, it's best to consume the supplement or concentrated fucoidan drink. One fucoidan capsule is the equivalent of eating a ton of mozuku seaweed at once!

Okay,here you go. BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a protein crucial for brain development, function, and plasticity. It plays a significant role in: . Neurogenesis: The growth and development of new neurons. . Synaptogenesis: The formation of new synapses between neurons • Synaptic plasticity: The ability of synapses to change and adapt in response to experience • Neuroplasticity: The brain's ability to reorganize itself in response to experience or injury. BDNF levels are influenced by various factors, including:. Exercise: Regular physical activity can increase BDNF levels. • Diet: Certain foods, such as blueberries and omega-3 fatty acids, may support BDNF production. • Stress: Chronic stress can reduce BDNF levels. •Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for maintaining healthy BDNF levels • Age: BDNF levels naturally decline with age. BDNF is involved in many brain functions, including: • Learning and memory: BDNF is essential for the formation and consolidation of memories .Mood regulation: BDNF plays a role in mood disorders like depression and anxiety. • Cognitive function: BDNF is important for cognitive abilities like attention, problem-solving, and decision-making. Dysregulation of BDNF has been implicated in various brain disorders, including: • Neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease . Mental health disorders: Depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. • Neurodevelopmental disorders: Autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Researchers are exploring ways to boost BDNF levels as potential treatments for these conditions. While more research is needed, targeting BDNF may offer new avenues for improving brain health and treating neurological disorders.

Hi! Did you go to Japanese language school or your 4th year was just school in Japan? I’m thinking about going to Japanese language school and would love to know your advice on that. Since you’re so familiar with Okinawa, do you think language school is worth it? I lived in Okinawa, but due to various reasons, never properly learned the language. However, I want to move back permanently. Anywho, if you have time and knowledge to share some advice on self-study versus language school, I’d appreciate it!! Hope you’re doing well and enjoying your time in Okinawa 😊

Haitai! my 4th year was just school in Japan. I have never attended language school but I highly recommend going to language school or university in Japan to get a hold of the language and establish yourself here. Self-study is fine, too, but only if you are disciplined! I self studied, went to school, and surrounded myself in a Japanese speaking environment constantly. It is tough but you can do it :)

I just learned about fucoidan via hearing about dulse while on a tour in Northern Ireland and the guide mentioned people using dulse to treat psoriasis. When I googled that, I found a study on fucoidan reducing psoriasis symptoms in mice, but when I searched for supplements, yeah, everything was insanely expensive and the "rare seaweed only found in Okinawa" thing seems to be the main selling point/reason for cost. I see you are also relying on mozuku for your supplement, but because I got here by learning about Irish seaweed, I'm curious why dulse isn't a candidate for extraction? Obviously I don't know anything about what extracting fucoidan from seaweed even looks like lol, that would be an interesting video to learn about the process and maybe offer a more thorough explanation of why mozuku is really the best/only option for making supplements from.
@christal.haitai
@christal.haitai 3 месяца назад
Seaweeds like dulse and kombu are very hard and tough whereas mozuku is very soft. This means the cell walls are easier to break and extract pure fucoidan from with no other impurities mixed in. Video on that exact topic coming soon actually 😊
