Sharing a common interest in remote control hobbies. It all started with aeroplanes, but it’s evolving across crawlers, helis, drag cars, drones, boats and more!
Hey Jimmy d's rc i have recently pirchased the super decathlon and iam having trouble with the tail traging throigh the counors a lot becuase of the adverse yaw i belive, and iam wondering do you use any mixing in your plane like aileron to rudder or aileron differential to compansate for the adverse yaw thank for your responese in advance Tony Beverley
Hi Tony, thanks for watching, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I did a video on aileron differential for the OMP Decathlon, check it out below if you'd like. Long story short, I found it needed about 35% aileron differential (more up than down) to keep the rolls nice and axial. On a related note, as a real pilot I've got over 100 hours in Citabrias, the decathlon's less powerful brother. That plane needs rudder every time you use the ailerons to keep the adverse yaw in check. The way I see it, if you want to fly it scale some rudder mixing is a great idea! I haven't experimented with it yet though. Hope it goes well for you! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iEHbHaXMedc.htmlsi=eWbwsCMqdrk0U5fM
Thanks heaps for that information Jimmy D I appreciate it,I will definately try the aileron differential after watch your videos witch I enjoy aswell, thanks again Tony
Mine is powered by twin .25 size electrics contra-rotating. A great flying plane, but short lived. As with ALL ARFs It was build with 'Profits' in mind and once the limited run was exhausted it was gone.
Hi ebikefe, so sorry, I sold both these planes before even taking them for a fly! Wish I could give you an answer other than a shrug of the shoulders...
Good question Centerline, thanks for watching the video. Our field is a bit idiosyncratic. Big drop in elevation from right to left, high terrain on the approach from the right, and we're in a valley. Windshear is the the rule, not the exception and the two windsocks often indicate different things. We find it's better to approach from the low terrain on the left and land uphill, even with a light tailwind, especially with the bigger models.
Great question! Thanks for watching. Nah, she flies just fine - it's such a light servo. Having said that, it's kind of useless. When I apply rudder I get an oscillation in the yawing plane. The rudder doesn't affect much else other than I can tighten up the spin a bit. It was an interesting experiment, but not worth doing in retrospect.
Nice flying! Am about to purchase the PNP version and was wondering if you recommended a certain Rx? Would kind of like one with stabilization just incase I got in a bind. I have a TX16s radiomaster. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment Brandon. I think you can't go wrong getting a receiver with stabilization. I use Spektrum receivers because I was grandfathered in via JR (an old radio brand). If you have the multiprotocol TX16s you could go that route. There are Spektrum naysayers however, just like anything to do with the hobby. If you ask 5 different gold winged members at the field the same question, you'll get 5 different answers! I like to have my ailerons on different channels so I can dial in differential as required, so you'll want a 5 channel receiver minimum if you're going to do the same.
@@JimmyDsRC thanks for replying. I ended up going with lemon Rx and wish I wouldn't have because it's the only one I've ever had lose signal and cost me my Omp Edge. I've never been so let down. Will be going with spektrum once I get a new fuselage.
@@JimmyDsRC well I ended up using some epoxy wood glue on it for now and it's back in the air lol motor mount isn't as stable as it was originally. I love the plane so much ill be replacing it with a new one for sure!
@@JimmyDsRC Good evening. Hey, I spoke with Dan from Buddy RC when they were attending the Joe Nall event at TTA here in Woodruff, S.C. He reported that there would be a release around the latter part of Summer (or Fall) here in the USA. I'm still looking forward to the announcement. No hurries here. I appreciate the offer from your friends in Australia. Have a great weekend. :-)
Hi Stephen, yep, Figs CG'd it on the wing strut, but I think he's flying on 6s 5000's. I did the same with my 60" laser and fly with 6s 5200's. Is your battery pack as far forward as possible? It would be a shame to have to add dead weight in the form of ballast, but cheaper than a 6S 5000!
You had me going there for a second! Had to re-watch the post-landing footage to make sure both struts were there. 😂. Figs would have noticed though when breaking her down for transport.
@JimmyDsRecRoom gotcha lol. Plane sounds great. I'm more of a traditional aerobatic airframe guy but im not joking when I say the sound of this airframe roped me in. It's really cool
Looking good from what I seen so far. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if OMP would go ahead and add some lights to this model for those of us that like to fly in the evening sky. Patiently waiting for this model to be released here in the USA. 😉
Hey, lights would be an excellent addition! I guess you could retrofit 'em, but it would suck to have to cut that great covering job. Yeah I haven't heard anything about when this goes into production, but it sure would be nice to get a few wouldn't it!
Good question Michaelrajca6043, I reckon you'd have to ask OMP directly as I don't have any information on that front yet. You could probably find them via their Facebook reps and ask there. Search OMPHobby and any one of those hits with someone's name should do it. (Nancy OMPHobby, Mabel OMPHobby etc...)
Sweet bird. I have the original Bighorn & also the Challenger. Both really nice flyers in their own right. Looking forward to seeing more of the giant scale Bighorn. Any timeframe on when this one will be available? Or too soon to ask... LOL. Enjoy your flights. If this is anything like its baby brother- It will be grand. 👌😉
Thanks for the comment! How do you like that Challenger? Typical stick? No word on production dates for these giant scale Bighorns yet sorry. If you'd like to have a chat with someone from the factory, you might reach out to Mabel omphobby on Facebook.
@@JimmyDsRC Love the Challenger. I had so much fun I inadvertently pancaked it on a loop a little too close to the ground a few months ago. Had some minor structural damage where the wings connect to the fuselage. But after a little modelling so to speak had her back up in the air in no time. Made no trim adjustments. Flys better now than before. Extremely happy with this bird. Highly recommend it. ❤️👍👍😉
Well done keeping the Bighorn in frame Jimmy D..it was terrible lighting conditions with that overcast sky, but mate that yellow and red scheme just stands out so well!!
You're spot on Greg, haha! My apologies. This was early RU-vid days with a wearable action camera. More recent videos on my channel are significantly easier to see.
Do not buy a Da engine unless you use a twin. The single cylinder Da engines destroy airframes. They have a lot of compression and power but honestly how much power do you really need at the cost of airframes
