Figure Skating throughout the years from 1977 to 1998, and 2002 seasons, thus far... Sharing my love for a sport with other like-minded fans. Due to NBC's aggressive filings of copyright claims on RU-vid and to avoid having this channel removed, I will end my uploads to this channel when I complete the last figure skating season that was broadcasted by ABC, which was the 2009-2010 season. There will be a smattering of video clips after that season. Thanks for watching!
Having watched this and knowing her story now, what an incredible moment. There should be a movie made of this. She overcame depression and a nervous breakdown to nearly beat Katarina Witt.
This was the correct path for her at this point and it's disappointing that it didn't continue. A classic instrumental piece. Unusual element layout. It really highlighted her exceptional spinning and transitions (especially the well placed Ina Bauer). Instead of showcasing her power, it gave a softness to her that no other program did. Performed to it's max ability, this would have given her great presentation marks.
This was arguably the most disappointing performance of Nancy's career. While she was waiting for her scores to be announced, poor Nancy looked like she was ready to burst into tears!
This is mesmerizing. I adore this. It looks like he’s alone in the arena, skating for himself, for the sheer joy of being on the ice with the music. It’s stunning.
their skaiting and programs have not held up well over time; in retrospect they were more show than substance and they were lucky to get the placings they got
На чемпионате Европы в Копенгагене Оксана и Женя стали только вторыми. Так,что это только серебрянные медали. И платье у Оксаны здесь более танцевальное в тему чем та юбочка на Олимпиаде.
The americans Kyot and Jason were interesting. She would dump him trying to find a stronger skater. She wanted a medal and almost got it. Poor Jason I remember he was left high and dry looking for work as it was too lte to find a partner. There have been some sob stories in pairs and it is usully the Americans ie Todd Sand had a chance for a medal with Natasha and dumped her for true love. We have seen it before. In Russia Abervuch dropped Anasinna for his wife. Anissina went on to gold and Abervuch took silver.
never understood the appeal of kwan; her jumps are very average barely gets off the ground and the distance travelled is not far; her speed into and out of jjmps not fast; her artistry is far over rated she is not particularly graceful or elegant she lacks refinement she needed ballet and dance training; she moves her arms and head but the movements are not fully extenedd and refined; in fact alll the leading ladies here were lacking; sarah was too young and unrefined and irina was just dreadful maybe sasha cohen was the best but need to watch her program cloesly
Just my opinion, but perhaps the choreography of a skaters program is mainly from the choreographer so the latter should get the bulk of the praise. The real innovators! Similar to when a politician delivers a speech (written by a talented author) Not taking anything away from anyone, just giving credit to where it's mainly due!
Ya like everyone else I’m rewatching this after Irina’s recent comments and wow. I’m not a fan of Sarah at all but no one can deny she was perfect this night. Even Irina’s look on her own face before she started to bow shows that she knew her performance was mediocre and sloppy. Talk about delusional. Also those 5.9’s for presentation were an absolute joke.
I just rewatched Irina’s and Sarah’s programs due to Irina’s recent comments about still being bitter over her silver medal and the fact that this was over twenty years ago. I remember being really impressed and extremely happy for Sarah the night that this happened. Again, where were Sarah’s “serious” mistakes? Tbh, I, as a non-skater could see at least one wacky landing and sloppy, disconnected choreography from Irina. Sarah deserved her medal, and Irina needs to accept that.
hey i am here too because of what irina said recently about this performance; i agree with you i dont see any serious mistakes in sarahs routine and irinas routine is still dreadful
If she had been placed 2 nd which I think she deserved .Slutskya was slow weird choreography not a lot of presentation ,but when you fire Frank Carroll and have your skating Dad as a coach I think this was part of the problem
Tonya was way better than Kerrigan. She was a powerful skater. I love to watch these clips of her. She skated well here despite the falls when attempting the Axels.
She’s such an inspiration. Finished second in the World Figures Competition recently (2023 or 2024). It, along with equestrian, is the only competition where men & women compete directly against each other.
