Chicken Joe is vibe goals. completely unflappable, somehow handy in any situation, totally loyal friend and always entertaining to be around. He's living life, man. I've never seen a happier chicken.
It was a CBS requirement. Alan Alda and Larry Gelbart tried to get rid of it, and were able to get it out of scenes where a laugh track really didn't belong, but just know they hated it as much as you do.
As a young Army Intelligence officer in the early 80's, it was common in the Army to hear "he's a Colonel Flagg" as a derogatory term for anyone in the intelligence business who was a "secret squirrel," or otherwise uptight, anal, narcissistic, or just plain weird. Ironically, my first assignment was to Korea 83-84, and yes indeed, there was a First Lieutenant in our young officer "Rat Pack" who we all despised, as he was a stereotypical "Colonel Flagg." We did everything we could to make his life miserable.
I hated this character. All characters were believable up until Flagg, but he was just ridiculous, and too silly to be real. It ruined the episodes he was in.
I never really knew if Flagg was the real deal or just completely out of touch with reality. Like if the war broke him like it would eventually do to Hawkeye
Henry winter brilliant as Flagg as well as Sidney freedman occasional episodes but brilliant when they do Flagg best was col Potter playing cards with two Koreans set up perfectly by Winchester sinews was when he stays for 2 weeks and realises summer is where you make it when in middle of winter margaret accepts a small tree to be planted
