Mark installed a Rare Earth in my old Gibson Heritage custom, and when he told me it was a fine instrument, that meant something. He's a treasure here in Texas.
A quick search makes that seem like a baseless claim. I can't find any substantiation. According to article "The Honest Graft of Lady Bird Johnson" by Jack Shafer, Lady Bird's purchase KTBC (radio - later she also bought the KTBC TV station) was facilitated by LBJ's pull with the FCC - an agency which was nearly abolished, and saw LBJ as an ally.. This was in 1943 - LBJ was a mere member of the House of Representative until 1949. The radio station was given new permission to broadcast 24 hours a day, and was moved to a frequency 590 AM where it could be broadcast more widely (not clear why - either the frequency just broadcasts further, or it was less used by competing stations). Seems like more favors from the FCC. They formed LBJ Holding Co., with Lady Bird as president. They ended up owning more radio stations and a couple banks. Anyway, that seems to be how they made their money. They may have had stock in any number of companies as well.
The poor bastard inherited that war. What the hell you expect him to do after the shot had been fired making him President? Ops in that region were already full on, JFK sniped, LBJ left holding the bag. WTH else was he sposed to do. What would you do? I am not defending him to the hilt, rather, how would you have handled THAT?!? Outside lookin in, "ok well #1 we should blah blah blah #2-:inside lookin out, we bought and paid for #1, but it ain't paid nothin, ain't even breakin even. Snafu
