Like Davison, I think he did it mostly for the money...unlike Davison, Eccleston actually could act and gave his all to the role regardless. I've met him and he was quite friendly, but again, considering how much I paid to see him at the convention...I still think it's all about the money.

Watching this and I’m amazed by Eccleston’s honesty and how humble he is. The way he admits to not being much of a fan of the show as a child and is able to criticise the original show. He takes the show seriously, but doesn’t take himself too seriously. I feel a lot of actors today don’t have this kind of earnestness

I liked him but I have to disagree with him calling the classic series sexist. No look at sarah jane, romana, liz Shaw strong woman. And look how the used monster of Peledon to actually fight sexism by getting sarah jane to talk to the queen about woman lib. As well as the original producer was verity lambert a young woman. Sorry but no

An interviewer who hadn't done his research into the Daleks. They had already shown, in McCoy's era that they could cope with stairs. Comes up with the awful, cringeworthy "behind the sofa" cliche. Bravo to Ecclestone for avoiding the regeneration question but why ask it in the first place ? No other actor had ever left after one series, prior to him. All in all, an awful interview done by someone who hadn't got a clue what he was talking about.

Oooooh the awkwardness of the question of staying or regenerating, you can see the tension in Chris's face! Such a shame

I think the most amazing thing about this interview is, after his more recent interviews over the years whereby he's opened up about his differences with Russell, Julie & Phil, he speaks about Russell so highly. Every time he's asked WHY he wanted to play The Doctor he answers because the show was written by Russell. Considering the timing of this interview when he must have already filmed the regeneration and had the arguments and disagreements it's amazing how highly he speaks of Russell. Whoever and whatever you believe the truth is behind him leaving the role, to speak to highly of someone you've had bitter disagreements with is an amazing quality to have.

It’s great to hear that, despite his fallout with the BBC, he still gives the people he worked with on set a lot of credit.

Eccleston seems to respect Russel T Davies despite what people have said. I think there is a real possibility that he would consider coming back for the 60th anniversary with Davies at the helm. We don't know the clash between Eccleston with top BBC players were at all anything to do with RTD.

Imagine if he got a proper era with multiple seasons. Makes you wonder if season 2 would have had the same stories with a slightly different tone in the scripts, or if it would have been a whole different set of adventures.
