I haven’t read the books yet. I was introduced to Percy Jackson through the two movies. And a few months ago, I watched this musical and from all the songs, this is the only one that won’t stop playing in my head. It hit me the most in the play. I was really amazed. I truly felt Grover’s emotion. It made Thalia’s death more emotional than how I saw it in the “Sea of Monsters” movie. I hope that in the Disney+ TV series, they deal with the impact of Thalia’s death on the same level as this song. And I found out from someone that in the books, Grover and Thalia probably have their conversation about what happened off screen some point after being brought back to life at the end of “Sea of Monsters”. I want the Disney+ series to add their own scene of Grove and Thalia talking about what happened.
I just thought a sad au where Thalia ended up being turned instead of just a tree she became a draiad never able to do anything to help only watch as everything from the books goes down
In the beginning of book one I had a hard time being able to feel bad when Grover explained the tree, but the musical really helped adding even more emotion to it, this song is beautiful man, also I love your Grover design.
The Disney+ TV series should do something similar with showing how much it effected Grover. In addition, they should add him and Thalia having a conversation about this when she’s brought back to life after Sea of Monsters
The simple fact that this song talks about Thalia while starting with the opening four notes to a Green Day song about having to part ways remains enough to make me curl up and cry
Thalia watching this animation = "wait..... wait just a sec...." Us = ? Thalia = *Gasp* HEY! YOU DREW ME WRONG. TRUST ME! IT LOOKS GOOD BUT I WAS A PINE TREE. NOT A OAK TREE!
No in the book he is 28 but his body ages much slower than humans. And since he meant Percy 5 years after the tree incident that would make him 23 when it happened.
Percy: "I thought I was the only kid of the big three gods." Me: Okay I thought Percy had absolutely no idea which god was his Dad, how does he know it's one of the main three!?
ACK- okay can i just say how much i LOVE THIS?!? bro this animatic is AMAZING the art is so pleasing to look at and you can just *feel* the emotions within the song ahh- goodness also grover is sooo underrated as a character and has such an interesting and heartbreaking backstory so im really glad you decided on this song specifically!! overall i enjoyed this animatic a BUNCH :))
I love Grover so much. Not only does he feel like he failed Pan and the rest of the gods, but in the Hero’s of Olympus, we hardly see him because he is finding more Demi-Gods. I love and respect Grover I’m so many levels it’s not even funny.
I LOVE how when he says “go back” you did a flashback scene. And it’s timed perfectly. And TRADITIONAL ART?? And it still fits very well with the music and looks smooth? Incredible
"It's there reminding me Of all I failed to be the tree on the hill" Double meaning where he failed to be the tree on the hill. He thinks he should've died not Thalia
It’s such a beautiful yet tragic song that you forget, Annabeth was only seven at this time and Grover was the oldest making it worse that the oldest couldn’t protect Thalia and now like and Annabeth had to suffer as well.
Yeah you have to think that Grover's more than likely severely traumatized by this event. He has to see the tree everytime he comes to the camp and when it probably happened, it was probably talked about a lot. People were probably like "Yeah, that daughter of Zeus got killed last night, she's the tree." which probably just compounded the pain he was feeling. And they like severely gloss over this trauma in the books after the events of Sea of Monsters. Sure, Grover probably is ecstatic that Thalia is alive, but at the same time it's still a reminder of how badly he failed. They should've had a scene where Grover and Thalia like sit at the hill, talking about what went wrong.
Video: Thalia (pronounced Talia) Me: *angry growling* My brother: *laughing because the movies and a movie reveiwing guy also pronounced it Talia) Me: *hissing*
One thing I notice about almost all of the animatics of this song is that no one draws Thalia's tree as a Pine Tree like it says in the books. Just thought it was interesting.
