The National WWII Museum tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world-why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today-so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn.
Unfortunately, Conrad Crane has repeated an often repeated myth about Hitler and the Me-262. In actual fact, the Me-262 was delayed by the poor jet engine performance of the Junkers engine. Not by the supposed interference of Hitler insisting that it be converted to a bomber. There is no evidence of Hitler's interference other than the dubious statements of Germans after the war. Converting the Me-262 to a fighter bomber would be no more complicated or time consuming a task than that already done in the conversions of the Me-109 & Fw-190 to fighter bombers during the war. Often these conversions were simple enough that they could be done by air units in the field. Running bomb release cables through the fuselage and wings was not difficult, nor was adding bomb shackles. Of course heavy payloads required engines of sufficient power & reliability. The Junkers engines had development & engineering problems, thus it was not a Hitler induced restriction.
When Hitler declared war on the US, the Soviet Union had just started its counter-attack at Moscow. I wonder if Hitler was aware just how massive that was going to be when he chose to take on the US simultaneously.
Obviously Japan awoke a sleeping giant. Then Hitler decided to stab at the giant himself. Both were big mistakes and Robert Citino perfectly illustrates how catastrophic they actually were. The question today is not if Germany and Japan could have won after December 1941, but if the US could have defeated them single-handedly.
Why shoot at the balloons? They had more important targets that were coming ashore than worrying about the balloons. And thanks to deception tactics, D-Day landings were a surprise, especially with the number of ships and troops that were involved, as it was believed that an invasion would come from a different location.
"industrial scale warfare is unlikely to be fought" (in the future). Yet here we are in 2024 trying to supply arms to Ukraine for an industrial scale war. Not a huge one, but we're still struggling.
PLEASE raise the volume, people can always turn it down, but old deaf folks like me can't turn it up any more. So many WW2 videos with this problem, very frustrating.
Beautiful and righteous ceremony, best rendition of the national anthem...celebrate Armed Forces Day!!! Its not done enough. Go WWII Museum...God Bless.
The 101st Airborne was only in combat for less than a year, during WWII. Stop acting like they single-handedly won the war. They were just one part of a much larger, and extremely complex operation, that took years to accomplish.
One of my greatest inspirations ❤ one of reasons that I’m behind the stick in the cockpit and building airframes with an A&P was the fault of this Ol’ Crow. God bless you Mr Anderson and his family my condolences. 😢❤ Fly on Ace
Very good!! Now I have one for all, this is in the European theater. Why didn't the Germans use their navy during the battle of Stalingrad through the black sea? Turkey was neutral?
Excellent discussion. I have 3 points to add. First, they mentioned the Dresden Fire Bombing. It was an act of total war that the powers that be understood. To put it in context for a modern audience, the Dresden Fire Bombing is used to explain how modern forest fires on the west coast of the United States and in Canada wreck so much devastation so quickly. Second, one must realize that the science of "the bomb" was in it's infancy. Nuclear fission had only been understood in late 1938. In a little over six years, they refined science, ore and engineering to build a bomb that was supposed to end all bombs. Third, we still have horrible wars, tremendous civilian casualty and all at the behest of tyrants or religious zealots.
...and now we arm, fund & train these same NAHTZIS. Think im wrong? Look up the AZOV BATTALION & the insignias on many of the Ukrainians uniforms & equipment.
