This was really useful (even 5 years later) - thank you! I’m just wondering whether you’ve had a chance to use the 2.0 and have any thoughts, or whether you’ve used the black diamond Womens fast pack and have any thoughts on how they compare? Any insight appreciated 😊
I have one mini and three larger.. The smaller blade is superior in almost every useful aspect.. Most of the time we dont need a cutlass to trim up our 1 kilo monofilament fishing line or for cleaning a small trout.. sometimes more blade is too much blade for the job. But its still fun. l just bought the Full size USMC Red Spacer Kabar.. First class firearms quality machining on this knife.. Flawless.. The cross gaurd is a bit wider than the original, but also much sturdier.. I love the original shaped tip more than the Tanto tip. But i also like the serrated blades alittle more than straight edges.. Both are great. The smaller size is much more practical and useful for many people. And its a good size for young scouts to practice their new bushcraft skills..
Thanks for this review. One question: Where do you have the hood from? As I can see, it is not available with the blanket? But the combination blanket+hood seems very convincing to me :) Best regards, Kerstin
Hello, I'm hoping to buy from zen bivvy eu as usa don't import internationally. How much did the import vat and customs duty/ courier fee cost in total please? Thanks
Bought one in their Vault Sale, where they noted issues with durability, which is why they stopped making it, as well as imperfections in the ones they finally put up in the sale which compromised their performance in the cold. I figured it was something I would just wear on the odd special occasion, and to own a bit of their history. I don't think I'll wear it at all because of how loud it is when you move in it, and the rigidity of the material is a bit much. I don't regret buying it since I like it as a piece of art, but I would find it hard to recommend the brand to anyone else due to the price. I still like supporting them, even if only during their Vault sales, simply because their approach to clothing makes me smile. I do wear their Ceramic Hoodie+Indestructible Jacket when it's cooler out but not super cold. I like the look of the combo, and it makes me feel a little more secure about potentially taking a spill on my bike. I wear their Planet Earth and Garbage t-shirts every week. Now I have a Solar Charged Puffer on order, which I'm hoping becomes my default winter coat. I have another brand of coat with aerogel that I like for warmth, but it's bulky and not waterproof, and I like the look of the Solar Charged Puffer more. Keep up the Vollebak reviews. There aren't enough of them.
"Known as a Nessmuk knife- the origins are unclear" George Sears, he wrote stories of wilderness travels under the penname Nessmuk. Basically one of, if not the main forefather of American Bushcrafting. The Nessmuk "blade shape" was a large fixed blade for skinning and slicing. He wandered pretty much everywhere with only a double bit axe, his characteristic Nessmuk skinner, and a folding pocket knife.
