Can they just get B&M to come in and remake this one? Add a few new ideas judiciously but keeping the main structure the same (such a great layout)...imagine the smoothness and power
This park really needs to stop with adding endless launch coasters (Drachen Spire? Who cares, they already have Pantheon, Tempesto, and now Darkoaster PLUS Verbolten!) and get a new gen. Vekoma or S&S Sansei (yes ik they are now working together/owned same) I mean the latter proved they could replicate while making it really cool with "Steel Curtain" already. I'd just say they shouldn't jump onto a prototype until maybe another is built and is shown to work better, but Vekoma alone could do it, or a collab could lead to a coaster that'd outdo Steel Curtain in every way while paying homage to Arrow's major attempt to push the envelope of what was possible.
Frankly, I would rather ride Son of Beast WITH the loop than ride the Flip Flap Railway -- which was a 19th century looping coaster that pulled a PAINFUL 12 g's! The reasons were: 1. the loop was way too small (i.e., too tight); and 2. the loop was perfectly circular.
This was one of my first inverting coasters when I was a kid. I LOVED it. It hurt, but it was so much fun. It was the only coaster I ever bought memorabilia for.
It did beat the hell out of me, but I didn't mind at all. Because I was so scared of how tall it looked from the ground and how long that climb up the first hill was that when we went over the top and didn't plummet straight down like most coasters, I was just grateful to be alive. I can say with pride that I survived the infamous Drachen Fire before the corkscrew was removed, with no lingering pain except the sadness over her being gone forever.
So glad I rode this ride when I was 18 years old. I remember this was a good ride but when I got off felt like I got into a wreck. R.I.P. Son Of The Beast!
I rode this in 2001 when I was 10 about 10 times 5 being at night. Nobody in my family would ride it. Greatest wooden coaster ever. Kings Island is still a place I wanna take a road trip to go back to.
Damn look how high this Son of a Bitch was in the air at the top of the first drop! I was told this thing was insane and you would be insane from riding it because this monster of a coaster was not for the faint of heart! I never got a chance to ride Son of Beast because I never have been to Kings Island.
Probably from this Japanese fan site: web.archive.org/web/20181122061113/www.asovini.com/screamer/ Now, off-line, sadly. Had a nice collection of Yokohama Dreamland photos: web.archive.org/web/20160629223216/www.asovini.com/screamer/e/ydlphoto.html I thought Disney's Matterhorn & Nara Dreamland's Dreamhorn had a splash first tho.
The novelty factor was the only thing this coaster had going for it. The pace of the ride was lethargic at best. The upright position of the riders acted like flaps on an airplane's wing. The loop on it was salvaged from the Screamin' Demon.
I have ridden this ride many times. Interesting concept but not that exciting really. Standing up, your body can compensate for the dips and turns easier than sitting down, which lessens the g forces.
This video was taken in 2006 at the absolute latest. If it was taken close to its opening date in 2000 it could have been taped, then converted to digital format later.
