1.2K views and ONE comment? Come on people, have numerous cats acquired your even more numerous tongues? I have two “Ouroboros” rings (with the dragon swallowing it’s own tail, the “ring pass not,” the place where cognition fails, and only faith and intuition are left to light our way!), and one is silver, with eyes of rubies, and one is gold, with eyes of emerald… The silver one, which I wear daily, has suffered much, and even lost part of one wing, and I can’t possibly even imagine loving it any more deeply, whereas the gold one, which I wear only for affairs of state and high ritual, I scarcely even think about, although I believe I paid nearly six times more for it, but merely in that specious commodity of so little consequence, that we refer to as “MONEY”… True proximity to our hearts, minds, and indeed our most very effulgent “beings,” infuses these little masterpieces of entropy and imperfection with vibrational and other inexplicable “magics” both undeniable and thoroughly incalculable… I am not broken, but I am badly bent, and yet I know that the Wabi Sabi cognoscenti love me all the more for my trials and tribulations and numerous bloody trophies… Much love to all of my very dear “cognosabies”… you’re all quite perfectly imperfect…

When I first encountered the term wabi sabi, I realized that, in a number of ways, I'd been thinking along similar lines for a long time; stretching back to my senior year in highschool, where I read Henry David Thoreau's book Walden. There was a kind of wabi sabi outlook in his own philosophy. In one way or another, it's very much shaped my lifestyle choices, and career choices ever since. This outlook runs counter to the modern society that is constantly pressuring us to never be satisfied, and always seeking the perishable, the transient, the (ultimately) disappointing quality of the very things we're told can fulfill us. Wabi sabi is a more realistic and sustainable attitude.

The concept of ma (space) has a apt significance. We also see it often in nature. The same when used in man-made things plays vital role. With this understanding, I have a question in my mind, if any language expert can explain it. The question is "In most languages we see spaces in between words, punctuation marks used for indicating meaningful interval/space. In a Japanese sentence we find punctuation marks used, but not the spaces between words. Why there is no space between Japanese words?" Please help to understand.

Hi, thank you for your thoughtful question. The absence of spaces in Japanese writing is rooted in the language's unique structure and history. Japanese utilizes a combination of kanji (characters borrowed from Chinese), hiragana, and katakana (syllabaries). The boundaries between words are signaled by the kanji or kana characters themselves, rendering spaces unnecessary. Additionally, the grammar and use of particles in Japanese naturally create separations. Similarly, traditional Chinese writing does not use spaces between characters. Each character typically represents a word or a meaningful component, and the language's structure allows readers to effortlessly understand the text. I hope this helps!

Bring back classic architecture. That's true beauty. Modern and Postmodern architects simply can't design and build. It is alien and against the human spirit.

Minimalism is obsessed with less material things, that people become anxious forcing themselves to get rid of none use. Wabi Sabi allows for imperfection that calms, and having objects that you don’t use, that you find valuable. Wabi Sabi brings us close to nature, while Minimalism bring us to minimum objects with the soul purpose of giving you time to focus on tasks, focusing on outcomes. Focusing on outcomes comes with perfection and pointless suffering.

as i teach myself Shodo calligraphy, as a calligrapher trained in western (Roman script) tradition, the idea of WabiSabi is mind-boggling! that there is beauty in Imperfection, ties in perfectly with the concept of Enso : the Circle made in a single stroke... IMperfect or otherwise!
