I'm from UK and learned Bata from Arilus, nice vid Nick. Also I went in the conga and walked what felt like for a whole day, this was this year. Your video is helping me unravel my experiences in Santiago. I went, but I didn't investigate it like you have and I'm not sure I would be able to do that, I jumped in deep and experienced something pure and for that I am grateful, but I must ask you, how do you approach a place and come away with so much information and knowledge? I'm so glad you did this for me.
Yep. Nick, this is pure gold! Thank you for helping me to unravel the mysteries of this music. I had some old recordings of this music, I think you show the album. It had a close up of the hands on a drum.
How about some dynamics? In such a live hall, maybe lighten up during the vocals. Trying to be heard over everyone else, instead of blending and choosing your moments to shine comes off as novice in terms of ensemble etiquette. Just saying, just because you CAN play a loud slap, doesn't mean it's warranted in every situation. By the time it got to your soloing, it didn't pop out in contrast to the previous 7 minutes of you over playing with excessively loud slaps. Sometimes, less is more.
