When i worked for donzi in 77 thru 86, we built 18 2+3 with a big block 454 , 330 hp, tr2 outdrive. The boat would do all of 77 mph but the pnly problem was that the boat would chime walk due to the lift of the outdrive. So i know for fact this boat didn't reach 75mph
You probably built this one. I believe it is a 78, which came with the 454, and came with the especially built badge in the center console. My father is the original owner. U know how many x-18 were built with 454?
@PaulYDMarauder I probably built it. But I don't know about the badge you're talking about. I do know that there was only a few that had the 454 in it. Later on in the year, there was probably less than 6 that had the big blocks. After 78, there wasn't any big blocks built that I can remember. As for the x-18, there was very few built because of demand. Demand for the 2+3 went up. Most of those were equipped with the small blocks. 260 hp. After 79. The X18 deck was cut up.
Start by understanding the difference between the sound of a Nitro engine and a 2-stroke gas engine! This way you will not do bad publicity simply because you know nothing about it! Your setup is bad...You cry that the parts break but you don't know how to do the maintenance and especially when to do this maintenance. It's been 7 years since you made this video, I hope you are more mature now...
I don't know what you're talking about? I believe you need to read more of the description in the video. Never did I claim or expected this boat to perform like the best of the best. I do know the difference between 2-stroke and nitro engines. I bought this thing for shits and giggles and for kids to play with. I have no problem how the boat performed in the video. The problem is everything breaks on the boat. You can barely get one tank through the boat without a drive shaft breaking. The company never has any parts in stock and you end up with a paperweight. Made this video warning buyers that think this is a deal. I would hate to see a kid save up all his money to get this thing and all it does is end up breaking and with no ability to get new parts for it. The company makes it seem like this a great product and has fake reviews
Whatever man, every 5 minutes parts break and they are not replaceable because the company never stocks parts. Regardless of how cheap it is, it should work more that one tank of fuel..... look at the reviews outside of the company. There's not even one bad review on their site because they screen it and delete bad one's. www.resellerratings.com/store/NitroRCX
Yep, I still have the machine, I live in southern Wisconsin, so unfortunately I don't get to put on a ton of miles all the time. probably in the mid 3000 mile range on the sled now, haven't had too many issues. When I purchased the sled new the fuel pump went out on me which was covered under warranty "still got me home it just made the machine go in limp mode" Last year the fuel pump gas gauge was faulty, so I couldn't tell how much gas was in it. Replaced it with a used eBay one and seems to be working fine. Other than changing carbines and fuel filters that was it, so I'd say pretty reliable. When I go I definitely ride it hard. I don't baby it at all. Especially how ruff our trails are with barley any snow.
@@PaulYDMarauder Thanks for the info, I ride in central WI and just picked up a 2012 with 2,133 for miles. Guy that had it never had any issues, and well with my luck I'm sure I'll run into some issues.
@@jrhaines30 no problem just make sure you get a spare fuel filter. The motor will go in limp mode once the filter gets just a bit dirty. I'd hange it every 1500 miles or so. It can be a bit of a pain to change it's much easier to change when it is warmer out.
Paul I've got an exceed 56'' gas catamaran from NitroRCX.com. That thing is faster than any boat I've had. Been into rc for about 8 - 10 yrs. Sounds to me your running your boat way way to rich. It loaded up at the start of your run and got even richer at the end. Lean out the high speed needle first. Then the low speed needle along with the idle needle. A little bit (1/16) of turn clockwise or leaner. Good Luck Paul
You've been into RC boating for 8 to 10 years and you think this is the fastest boat you ever had, wow. That's like saying Dodge Caravan is a Formula 1 car. Must be a spokesman for the website ridiculous.
My Uncle had a left hand drive Classic when I was a kid (think it was a '73) and I loved it. Everything from the sound, the speed, wind blinding your forward vision (no windscreen) I loved it. A few of the people on the lake in Northern LP of MIchigan hated it tho <3 Even with the mufflers it was still LOUD :D If I ever have the money I'm getting one just like he had, those boats are so fun...but for me I'd love a nice little Lund fishing boat :) I will say watching a twin-engine Formula cigarette boat launce at a marina in Michigan was incredible. The sound of it could be hard a mile off still! <3
I have two Gas Powered Boats from NitroRCX, Exceed. I have the same boat your calling complete crap and I also have there 52" Gas powered Cat. I have had NO PROBLEMS with either boat and I plan on getting one of there HYDROPLANES as soon as they are back in stock. This company sells these boats all over the globe and this is the only major complaint I have seen. Maybe it's because you don't have a clue what your doing with your boat. They are NOT toys. These are 26cc Gas powered, FAST rc boats. As of this writing NitroRCX is OUT OF STOCK of almost every gas boat they sell, that in itself should speak volumes!
The hydroplanes have been out of stock for years. It's a remote control boat that costs not even thousand dollars it's a toy...... if you know anything about the 2-stroke RC world you would know these motors are pieces of shit. It is not even comparable Zenoah RC motor. The reason you haven't seen a complaint is because they block anybody that has a negative comment with them from their Facebook. They screen out all negtive reviews on there site. It is not a fast boat lol. If you're having fun with your boats go ahead have fun I don't care. I'm just letting people know about my experience. Hope that boat comes back into stock for you. You should look into the Pro Boat Rockstar 48-inch Catamaran Gas Powered RTR RC Boat. It's a much better boat. I have things ranging from custom built Service Kawasaki KX 500 AF, big block Donzi, dodge Vipers, and sleds. I am not new to the Motorsport world. Just Google NitroRCX complaints and you will see there are plenty of negative reviews.
Fast, they're not unless you think that 25 MPH is fast. The hydroplanes you're talking about are junk also, very poorly designed. When you rip off a crappy Pro Boat hydro and make it worse it is pretty bad.
I don't know where your getting your information Paul but I have (3) Exceed boats, the one in the video the Cat and a Hydroplane. All 3 have ZENOAH 26cc engines in them and they all run great. I will agree that getting parts can be hard but you know parts are going to break. If you go to Monkey Hobby in China and contact Yoyo Ling you can get all the parts you need. I always order like 4 drive shafts and Dog Collars things that you know are going to need to be replaced. Yes you have to work on them as they will not run forever if you don't take care of them. All 3 of my boats run and race great!
This is so awesome! We have a 76 X-18 with the standard Chevy 350 - about 300 or so horsepower and that’s plenty fast. A few years ago we blew the original drive and upgraded to a Volvo duo prop, which really changed the game in terms of handling and out of the hole power. This is so awesome though, and super clean! Keep making vids like this! What’s the fastest you’ve ever clocked it at?
The boat was purchased originally by my father brand new. I was told by him there was very few models made of the X-18. On the dash board it has an engraving by Donzi stating it was custom build for him. I believe originally it had the 454 in it. The original motor ran 75 on the very best day. Since then the original motor blew a crankshaft and the block was toast. The mechanic we deal with had a custom Mercury 454 that was build up and he replaced the original with that motor. We modified the hood, so the manifolds and carburetor would fit. Amazingly the original Mercury drive is still kicking and does not have any problems. I was told the new motor was in the 475 - 500 hp range. Even with a full tank and two large people in the boat it does low 70’s pretty easily. In the right conditions with little to no gas and one person in it, it will do dam near 80. It gets dangerous and the boat starts duck walking badly when you push it that hard. I tend to stay away from topping it out with less than a quarter tank. I will try and get some more videos of it. Hopefully, I will get some fly byes by the end of this summer. I wish there were more facts out about the boat and production numbers and what not. I cannot seem to find too much on the inner-webs.
Austin Smith yes they are! They break every time you take them out not worth the money you're better off buying a better boat. NitroRCX is a horrible Company 2.
To be completely honest I really don't know. The boat I want to say off the top of my head was made in 1978. I Believe only a handful of them were made with the 454 in it. This one comes with a custom badge stating it was specially designed for you. About 10 years ago I blew up the 454 and put in a custom Mercury 502. So there's really not much to compare it to. I have never seen one that was 100 % similar.
I have 1 and had a blast with mine till I crashed it 1 to many times. before my abuse, after my 1st summer the main frame started to become unglued from hull. I have prolly 150 plus miles of river ripping fun along side our pontoon boat!
Good for you! I am just letting other people know how crappy of company NitroRCX is. NitroRCX’s quality is horrible and they have no parts in stock. They don’t stand by their products and they screen out any bad reviews of their products, both on Facebook and there website. I find it really hard to believe you haven’t blown and drive shaft at the very least, and they never have anything is stock. All Chinese made crap that always needs repairs.
is the spider the same i want an inexpencive big scale gas boat for the up comming spring and idk many companys who would sell any boats for a good price. do you know any place to get something decent for a good price?
+The Rc Master6042 It seems like a good deal from Nitro R/C, but it is not worth it. The parts and engine are junk. You will never have a good day running it. Go with the Rockstar boat. It is a big gas powered R/C boat with everything you will need to get started. Google it! It should be around 1,000 bucks. You'll spend more than that on a boat from Nitro R/C making it right trust me!! Plus the Rockstar boat comes with everything you will need controller and all.
I don't know what you mean by loud? It sounds like most basic lawn equipment. It is a 2 cycle so it has a little scream to it. It is not quiet by any means, but I wouldn't think people inside a house would really care unless they like to cause problems. I would consider it to be on the same level as a leaf blower, but the boat would be a little less noisy on the top end. Hope this helps you out Ryan.
Ryan Sowa honestly I don't really know the rules by u. Its a 26cc 2 cycle motor. It's like running a low powered chainsaw noise wise. I would advise NOT! To buy this boat considering how NitroRCX is a pretty bad company. Big problems with the flex driveshafts breaking and along with that they never have parts in stock. Customer service is slim to none. I would research other places to buy a boat like this. They're going to be pricier but its well worth it.
This boat is in my top 3 of boats and out of that i have to choose just one. After seeing this video compared to the other boats it seems this boat handles and cuts corners betters in high speeds. This boat is my top pick right now as it stands. Looks good also. What kind of gas does it take?
