I heard a story from a fellow that described a bear that required 8 shots of 500 magnum to finish off. There were 2 hunters firing at it. He said the first round didn’t even make it flinch. It wasn’t a charging bear and it was testing over it’s kill so they were able to make measured shots. At the end of the day it’s still a handgun round fired from a handgun.
