Viking gods come from the earlier Ængle gods anf wider Germanic people. Woden came before Odin. Thunor came before Thor, Tiw came before Tyr, Frige came before Frig. The English days of the week are named after the Ænglic gods. Tiw's day, the god of war. Woden's day, the god of wisdom. Thunors day, the weather god (not just thunder, but it's where the word for thinder comes from) Frige's day, the goddess of the home Saturn came later, from Christianity, a Roman god. Sun day, the god of the Sun Mon day, the god of the Moon
I believe Anglo-Saxons were 400 years earlier fascinating stuff The Anglo-Saxons, on the other hand, worshipped their own set of Germanic gods, including Thor and Woden (the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of Odin). Both groups held these deities in high regard and incorporated their worship into various aspects of their lives. you know your stuff brother.
@@Travels1 Good luck with your channel, I hope it all goes well. You could pray to Hretha (no Norse counterpart), the goddess of fame, for her blessing. Although, 'bless' is an Old English word to mean 'smeared with blood', so make of that what you will. lol They're the same gods, but over time they developed a few differences. Many Anglo-Saxon remains are found with a necklace of Thunor's hammer. Interestingly, it has a long handle, but the biggest difference seems to be the gods they favoured. The Norse seemed to have favoured Thor, whereas the Angles seemed to have revered Woden the most. Woden, Thunor and Tiw, were certainly the most prominent, (they worshipped three wooden effigies) but you have ask why Tiw, the god of war comes first, in regard to the days of the week. It's my suspicion, the Angles, being a warrior race, and often at war might well have revered Tiw, the god of war more than any other. They worshipped the god they needed at that moment, and they were at war almost constantly.
@@creepingdread88 Thank you creepingdread88 I wish your channel the best also RU-vid algorithm is tough to crack, Hretha remains one of the more mysterious figures in Germanic mythology due to the limited references to her. Most of what we can say about her is conjectural, based on the sparse mention by Bede and linguistic analysis. Despite this, she still holds a place in the broader tapestry of Germanic paganism as a representation of the often-fragmentary nature of ancient belief systems. Have a great weekend.
Vikings were just watered down Ængles. They took their religion from the Ængles and their lifestyle too. When the Ængles were in their homeland (now Denmark), their neighbouring cousins, didn't invade. The Ængles were the top dogs in that area. The Saxons, were the favourite target of the Ængles. Norse (viking just means raiding) followed in the footsteps of the Ængles. Their downfall came at the hands of the Anglo-Saxons too. Not so mighty.
