Here s my 2 cents, this bird is not stunned or dehydrated, but yes he is sick. Seems to be a problem with his jaw or beak. The poo droppings on the window sill shows that the bird has been there for a while , more than 2 weeks maybe months. He is probably fed by the home owner with seeds so the bird doesn t have to go anywhere else until healed.
Cardinals do have bent beaks though, and the bird poop problem sucks as many birds get in when I have the door open, then if I don't notice sometimes it's a couple days before I go out to the shop and find a bird try to get out the windows where all the poop is, I've actually pressure washed that area 4 or 5 times , had 1 fly in the house to while I had windows out for washing, bird adventures lol
Open mouth not always means that bird is dehydrated! If bird is in pain after hit it opens mouth like that too and squints eyes like in the end of this video. And giving water to the bird with concussion is super dangerous, it can cause cerebral edema (not sure if it spelled right in english) and fast death.
My high school team in Northern New Mexico is the cardinal. But they do not live west of the 100th meridian. I was 55 before I saw my first cardinal in New Orleans. I called my mother to tell her how beautiful was this bird 5 feet from me at the bird feeder. There is a huge fine for owning a cardinal. My mother died at 89 without ever seeing one. I did research and the only zoo west of the 100th meridian (about Kansas City) is a zoo in Salt Lake City. Sad that many of people from these western states will never see a cardinal.
bird looks thirsty. mouth open the whole time and no energy. i dont blame the garage guy fot not noticing. he may have never had a pet to recignize when animals are communicating with you.
Friendly? I don't think so.... Stunned and in shock is more like it! You don't seem to understand what's going on! Do they fly into your window and you think they're coming to make friends with you? LOL
If a wild animal is not acting like a wild animal, 9 times out of 10, something is wrong. Especially if a stressful event has happened. Wild animals are wild.
The other day in a bird feed seeder livestream on RU-vid, there's this person in the chat that said "Man! I love birds!" with such passion and satisfaction. Dude, I feel the same way too! Cardinals are too cool, as Blue Jays and the Fio-Fio bird, I'm chilean so the Fio-Fio you can found it here in certain zones of the country. Birds are rad!
Poor thing is stunned and in shock, probably struck a window. He does look like he realizes you won't hurt him though. I bet he left once he calmed down. My brother found a bird that knocked itself out after striking one of our windows when we were little. We remembered that our dad told us animals hide in bushes when they're hurt until they get better so he was bringing it over to a large one in the yard when it suddenly woke up and flew away.
My grandpa had set up something similar but he rigged it up different than this as he was a man who would save a penny every way he could 😅😁 and wood heat is the most warm and best heat in the world, in my opinion. I love your set up, it's very efficient.
Love your country accent. I miss home, miss North Carolina, where I was born and raised.. and cardinals were always around the house along with many other kinds of birds. I watch the birds from my apartment window and the Cardinals are always most easy to spot in the trees 😁
The cardinals and finches are lucky I check the buildings before I shut the garage doors, as you can see they make a huge mess in just a few hours, I've had to pressure spray my shop out more than once because of bird poo several times, if I save them they are lucky. His mate was waiting outside he got water and flew off
Too terrified to fight back. Like all victims of disaster there is always someone there to film it for 'tube. Better to cover it with a lightweight cloth and then take it outside, and forget to film it, out of respect.
