Wasn't this song the theme song of one of the wrestlemanias? Or am I just imagining it in my mind? Haha edit 2 minutes later, yes! Yes it is! I've just scrolled down the comments and I've had it confirmed haha
Adolph builds a bonfire Enrico plays with it. Every line in this song is charged with metaphors regarding the political climate in Europe between the end of World War I leading up to World War II.
I remember being a little kid in the late 80s and this would come on TV and completely stop me in my tracks. I didn't know a word of English, but all the same it was and remains a masterpiece of a song and video.
The first international hit of the exceptional singer showman: Peter Gabriel (young and older) in his solo career with his world-class musicians (David Rhodes, Tony Levin, Manu Katché) with his daughter Anne (backing vocal).
Every one of us love that line "grab your things I've come to take you home" as it means mom/dad are here and everything will be alright. When they're gone, it falls to us to utter those words to those we love.
This is a very beautiful song! A true example of how hard a man tries to keep his relationship with his woman surviving. A man who truly loves whom he loves. All the ups and downs are just a part of the love he has for the one he loves. Rules are meant to be bent, obstacles are meant to be overcome, all in the name of love.
When this song was first released, I hated it. That repetition music in the background used to drive me up the wall. It wasn't long, though, before I began to appreciate it and went and bought the 45. And if I remember correctly, 'Moribund the Burgermeister' was on the flip side. I liked that side just as much. Also, if I remember correctly, I believe I saw him dive into his audience in a video.
