You don't even know how happy I am to find someone that is as passionate about Conan as I am. I really appreciate your joy at the original art from such a great artist. I don't know if I have ever met someone that matched my love before you. I did have to pause once you went non-spoiler free I will admit though, since I have yet to crack open my Titan books yet. But I am super pumped that you seem to love them already. I have a strong feeling I won't be let down. (I will come back to your video after I read issue 4). The story about missing your Grand Father was very special. You must be much younger than I, since my Grandfather died in his 90's, and that was about 52 years ago! I may have to leave my collection to you when I pass someday... I know it would be in good hands, my friend. BTW, I just left Canada this morning after flying back from Australia. I will say; Vancouver had one of the most calm and clean airports I have been to. Stay Savage my friend! ~ Son of Crom
Awesome! I'm glad I've given you another person out there that's into Conan that you can related to! The funny thing about us Conanophiles is we are out there. Generally our Conan appreciation is just under the surface and you never know when it will appear but it's totally there. People just need to know that they can talk about it and then they open up. If you're a Conan fan, you are definitely going to like what Titan is doing. Feel free to come back afterwards once you've got story arc 1, 2, and at least most of 3 done as I reference all of those in here. 52 years ago! Oh my! Now that IS some time ago! Heading OUT of Canada! Say it ain't so! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha...well, I guess I'll give that a pass if you're heading to Australia. Never been but it really is our Sister-Nation. Just with a heck of a lot or more snakes...yikes... Safe Travels!
WOW WOW WOW! A de la Torre original. Most impressive. I dig the break down. I would have to agree with you. Jim Zub is certainly laying ground work and threads to pull at down the line. You'll notice some easter eggs in the new arc as well. Good to have you back, even if it is just for a bit.
Hah! I see that #sithlife reference you did there! I was just glancing through my covers on the new Arc last night thinking...do I start reading??? OH, so tempting... Glad you enjoyed it! More to come later!
Oh my! We'll have to form a skateboarding posse now as an elite club! ha ha ha ha ha! Wait...that may be a good idea...I wonder if Jim Skateboards......ha ha ha ha ha!
Glad _Stygian Dogs_ mentioned you in his video, happy to visit your channel. I enjoy supporting any Conan fan, Happy to be your *New Sub **#691**!* I never bought the Conan comics when I was little, but when I was "forced to read a paperback" for lack of comics I wanted on rack; my eyes were opened to the World of Conan, and things have never been the same! I did read SSOC as a little boy after that (mostly because as a 9 year old, I felt like I was reading a "grown up book") lol. 50 years later, I am just now completing my SSOC run. Been hunting down every issue, and now all I lack is #234. Getting that issue later this month when I fly to Australia. Saw the posting on Ebay, and was shocked at the $29.99 shipping cost, but when I saw it was because it was coming from Australia, it made sense. So I contacted the owner, asked if he was near Brisbane, in Queensland, he said that he was about 90 minutes away but was willing to drive it down to a book store in the area. Very excited to fill that run out! Enjoyed your video and your open candor, look forward to watching more! Skol ~ Son of Crom
Hey! Welcome to the channel and glad to have you watching. You're effectively done the run! Wow! I'm jealous. I finished the Marvel Comic Run and I started picking away at the SSOC a while back, but I'm still no-where close. Wow! That is in fact a life-long love of Conan! Well done! Sweet deal on the SSOC book and that's a great example of how Conan people are a community right there. The seller's going to drive it 90 minutes to make sure you get your book. That's a solid move. Thanks for the kind words, and enjoy the video library. There's nothing really scheduled to be released right now but in a while there should be a few coming out in fairly short order.
@@tennesseefats Sounds Great! My next target (hopefully) is the 3 Conan covers issues of Weird Tales, and the 7 Gnome Press 1950's Conan novels. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Ah, I believe you are talking about Mississippi Fats who was portrayed in a classic movie with Jackie Gleason. This name is actually a long story but short version: is a play on a character from a classic Canadian Sketch Comedy show.
I've been waiting for this video Dog Brother! So happy to have bumped into you at Zub's table! Watching the video now...hoping we'll see some of what you may have acquired! 😊 Editing my comments as I watch ☺️...I brought my Lau covers to be signed on day 2...and totally forgot. 😕 I think my son was eager to go so I got distracted. Next year! Final note - Marc Silvestri looks like my father-in-law! 😂
Hah! Totally agree! I have to think that Jim was wondering what the heck was going on there for a moment or two! Oh no! Well that's ok, I'm sure the Artgerm folks will be back next year. They were doing a live whatnot sale while I was in the line - it was crazy to watch! Commerce at it's finest. Oh my goodness! That must be one tall dude!
Glad to hear you had a good time. I just stumbled onto the Titan Zub series and really enjoyed it. Conan’s always been in the culture but I never knew about it. I’m excited to explore more!
Conan does not belong in modern times besides Marvel characters. If he does that for you, then Im not bothered 😊 An hour of Mr Fats going full star struck and fan boy mode 😉
And that’s just the video! You have no idea how hard it was to stay “cool” during the show because that was days! I’m sure I let the giggling fan boy slip through a few times. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Well, to me, I can never travel to Canada but as Conan fan and sword and sorcery fan, I would get a poster of Conan movies, a drawing arts of both man and female warriors and barbarian, find anything to do with sword and sorcery like fanzine, sword, arts, action figures, statues, fantasy tradings cards and other stuff you may to think of, that will I do………….sword and sorcery, heavy metal yeah
Oh I can tell you there is generally a LOT of art at these shows. They have a whole artist alley that runs through the middle of the show that is full of original art. That’s a whole convention in and of itself! There’s also lots of swords…lots and lots of swords…
Good to see you back, even if it is for a check in. Also, I am writing this as I watch, so please forgive the disjointed nature of this comment. Anyways, I noticed the particular emphasis you put on both Roy Thomas and Roberto de la Torre when you were speaking of King-Sized Conan #1. Did you know... that both of them are working on a feature length story for an upcoming issue of Savage Sword?!?!?!? I am HYPED for that one! Also, I know why you didn't use the word "the"... 😉
Ha ha ha ha ha! Yep, that “the” is a THING! I did hear something about that upcoming in SSOC: that’s going to be epic! I’m still surprised by that king sized book. So much in there and such an under-hyped book. I should go buy another copy…🤔🤔🤔
Right?!? I didn’t mention it during the panel but I’ll be going back and asking about it today! My suspicion is that it’s already in the proposed timeline but I’m asking.
@@tennesseefatsWouldn't it be cool to just start a new Weird Tales? A revival of the whole thing and not just the concept? It is sort of what DMR Books are doing with Die By The Sword, except it's only Sword & Sorcery
That's what I'm saying. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to ask Jim when I was there on Sunday. I've sent him a DM request so we'll see if I'm able to drop that hint. You can't tell me Heroic Signatures has not taken a look into where the legal rights lie for Weird Tales at this point. Surely they must already know...
I'm so stoked you asked Jim about the semantics of preposition usages! Gonna be a great series. Also, 50 issue commitment to Conan is huge. He could build a Roy Thomas like legacy with that kind of time!
Oh yeah! He was supercool with our supposition! Definitely! 50 issues! He’s going to build up a legacy with this one. This is going to be Much-Sought-After Omnibus material when it comes out years from now. I’m back at the show today with the family, this should be cool!
This issue, Conan the Barbarian #25, Conan Exodus and Conan the Gambler arc are the best issues from the brief Marvel era. For the Claremont De La Torre i would say the story fits before Devil in Iron where Conan becomes part of the Kozaks and abandons his service under the Turanian king.
Oh I totally agree on that list! I just pulled my copy of #25 last night to take to get Zub to sign this weekend. Oh! The Devil In Iron! I was wondering what story it was that had Conan head over to the Kozaks! I'll have to give that one a read!
As someone who was trying to get into Conan for the first time, i really enjoyed the Ablaze books, they’re very fast paced and easy to read, I also really appreciated the art being different from story to story, it kept the stories feeling fresh and new. “Red Nails” was my favourite adaptation, by far.
Yep Ablaze did some really good work when they done into these REH stories! I still haven't decided what my favourite Ablaze one is yet, but Red Nails was good.
Absolutely! It’s an epic tale! I’m part of the way through Emerald Lotus right now and I’m wondering if there’s going to be a similarity on how this one plays out-but I haven’t finished yet so no spoilers. I may just be seeing something that’s not actually there. But no way to know until I get there…so I’ll just read, read, read….
