I never understood why Franchise Tagging, and then trading that Franchise Tag, is a strategically good move. While you MIGHT be able to get some Trade value, it also increases your Salary Cap penalty for the following year, which I think negates any of that Trade value. In this instance, you tagged Charvarius Ward for $19.2M (as seen at 9:13), of which $9.6M is guaranteed (Signing Bonus). When you traded him, you added that $9.6M to your Salary Cap penalty for next year, meaning that now have $9.6M LESS to sign any potential Free Agents with during the Free Agency period. I simply just don’t understand how this is a winning strategy, but I’ve seen you do this in multiple videos. Could you (or someone with more Madden knowledge than me) please explain? Thanks!
you actually don't lose any salary cap. you may lose a couple million in the off-season but it will recuperate once the actual season starts. because it's only a 1-year contract, so you're just trading it away to the other team without guaranteeing any money to the player. so it's also a really good strategy to get value out of a player. A lot of teams don't do it in real life just to get player the respect of going where they want
