I studied physics at university in order to become a biologist. It was the only science I didn’t excel at. I’m grateful that I understood your video. At 72, I’m determined to find out why my clothes dryer spins but doesn’t heat. I can order the part online and fix it myself. Before becoming disabled at 44, I was responsible for maintaining and repairing a half million dollar instrument. If I could do that, surely I can fix a dryer! I bought my first ammeter. 😊. Thanks! ❤

Emprical evidence: If you go below a gear of 1:1 on a bicycle, you start destroying bottom brackets and freehubs. Freewheels hold up better, to a point. But, not freehubs. One gear less than 1:1 can knock a cup and cone loose ball bottom bracket out of spec. Easily. Why can a sub 1:1 gear do this? It multiplies torque beyond design parameters. That's why. Bicycles are meant to multiply speed, not torque.

@@THEALCOHOLICdAYTRADER-vd5ti all I’ve done is bicycles for decades and I’ve never seen nor heard of this. A gear ratio of less than 1:1 is common. Please explain more.

This was fantastic, but what I really need most is a practical guide to incorporating geears into designs for makers. Common ways to arrange drive shafts and how to pick the best gears to simplify designs and minimize friction. How to decide how many teeth you should have etc. There is so much to know and I don't know where to look!

“You just learned physics”, brilliant. I love how simply you broke everything down. They say it takes a genius to explain something complicated in a simple way, so I’m nominating you for genius of the year my friend! 💡

Finally a physics teacher that says this, thank you! Do you know any physics society or article about the dumbness of that unit. Im also a physics undergraduate and I think physicists should change their habits about that.

I set up two wheels as in ‘wheel and axle lrn fzx’ right by each other. I used the wheels as Atwood’s with the same extra 20 g mass added at the 35 mm dia. One of these two Atwood’s machines accelerated 120 g at the 35 mm diameter and the other accelerated 40 g at 105 mm diameter. The 120 g was a string with 60 g on each side and the 40 g was a string with 20 g on each side. The strings were draped over their appropriate diameter of the pulley. I ran the two Atwood’s at the same time and they accelerated at the same rate. That means that the 40 g was accelerated to three times the velocity as the 120 g by the same input energy.

In fact you are not measuring current you are measuring microvolts with a microvolt meter current is not real and it doesn't move electrons is like a resistor divider in series so is a voltmeter and not an Amperemeter
