This is my auto culture space. Here I'll share my own car content, much of it related to MINI's. Occasionally, I'll drop in some DYI and other car bits I find interesting.
On faded oxidized black paint try Eastwood plastic resurfacer matte black aerosol, works excellent it brings dull to new in seconds I used it check it out on RU-vid and you have your answer, I also buy from Atlantic British, and lucky 8 the difference is on many lucky parts are cheaper and free shipping and rover parts has many oem parts im thinking about fender flares 2 different brands both require drilling or cutting off metal terrafirma easy just some drilling but flexi fender flares look nicer but way more modifications I'm not willing to do both has viedos on RU-vid so I might go with terrafirma much easier install
Believe it or not, mine still has no replacement flares. I kind of like the clean look. Next up is new black wheels, which I ordered when they were on sale from Atlantic British. Just waiting for tire replacement time. Then, I’ll see how it all looks before adding flares. Good thoughts…thank you for the suggestions.
As I stated on the bumper installed, I bought my D2 wrecked for 600.00 off copart it was missing 3rd roll seats by chance on carfax had latest repairs and shop who did work so I called that shop gave them Vin# and ask them did they know the previous owner they said he comes in here for service on his vehicles so I left my number and had them call him to see if he still had 3rd roll seat he did and I bought then along with few other parts but that not the story I'm got to talk about this is a 2004 D2 his insurance total this D2 gave him 8500 I bought 600.00 met him in Phoenix AZ bought both rear jump seats 500 and another 75 for retractable privacy cover and he turn around bought another 04 D2 for 4k and pocket the rest plus my 575.00 he's a retired Hollywood stunt man you never know who you might meet and I get to build another overland build as people today buying 50k to 70k vehicles debt the only thing keeps you working rather enjoying life
Hi Michael, just found your channel. We have very similar tastes. I also have owned multiple MINIs and Land Rovers, including a silver D2. Hope to get to the museum this fall before it ends. Here are some of my cars if you want to see more MINI content… youtube.com/@ministryofspeed01
Hi there. Thank you so much for following along. I haven’t posted in a while mainly because I was gone for most of July on MTTS. I checked out your channel and was immediately drawn to your video of the 06 JCW, wow what a splendid example of the 1st generation. And, I must say your video was equally wonderful. I was kind of sad at the end when you revealed the sale. But, I understand. I look forward to seeing the other videos. Thanks again for checking out my channel.
Good day! Mr. Micheal. Please Let me know when you are going to do all 4 brakes on your 2019 mini Cooper S countryman S F60. Looking forward for that!:) thank you 👍 for your great video. Patrick
@@sirisackx1582 Thank you for the kind words. I sold the 2019 but have a 2024. And, still have the 2018 Countryman. So, will post something when I do those. Thanks again.
Great video! My battery croaked, of course, on a Saturday morning with all the shops closed. But I was able to pick up a replacement and, using your excellent instructions, replace the battery in my '19 F60 in about 45 minutes! Car is running great and I will have use of it tomorrow on Sunday. That and I installed a high quality, long warranty battery and still saved about $235.00!
I’m in the market for a manual mini, what’s your opinion on a convertible? I think the you can only get it in the base trim. Would it make more sense to buy JCW manual? Thanks!
@@imaspy83 Hi, thanks for checking in. Yes, go JCW manual if you can. You’ll enjoy the extra HP and some of the driving characteristics when in Sport mode. Convertibles are great…loved my R59 JCW Roadster. My daughter drives the R52 Convertible and loves it. It really depends on the weather in your locale. I used mine quite bit as long as the temp was over 50 and less then 90. I have a friend who picked up a 2024 JCW convertible last year…what a sweet car. Good luck!
I think all car batteries between cabin firewall because if case of front collision accident battery would not be hit first would short out causing fire I originally had 21 Rouge located between cabin due to reason battery would protected for safety reasons it heavy and if front completely crushed won’t puncture battery I did have the 2024 mini Countryman I will same procedure to replace battery They haven’t change over couple of years My lost 21 Rouge front collision least battery didn’t get hit or puncture no fire 🔥
That's a cracking D2. Glad to see it in one piece after the damage! I'm about to fit Ko2s to mine on the same rims and like your set up. Could you tell me the size of your KO2's please? Thanks Jim
I took one look at this and decided to pay the battery supplier to do it for me. They have a fixed price of $35 for cars they can work on, and it took them nearly an hour. It was probably the best $35 I spent this year. I once changed an entire clutch on a 1977 Datsun Cherry (only a 12mm socket was required for the whole job) in less time than it took them to change a battery on a Countryman. Man, they really don't want you to work on your own car.
I toyed around with either removing my arches or sanding them down with some heavy to soft grit sandpaper and repaint. I might go with the latter since my 265/75r16 tires stick out. Thanks for your videos!
I custom ordered a '21 JCW manual and the rev-hang was so atrocious, I got rid of the car after about 9 months. It truly ruins the manual transmission experience. At the time, there weren't any coders out there that could turn it off. Maybe this has changed now, but I'm just going to keep having fun with my four R53 JCWs!
Thanks for chiming in. Yes, it definitely takes some getting used to. Perhaps there's a way to code it out...but I don't think so. And, yes, love the 1st gen cars. My GP1 is a wonderfully raw driving experience...the way I think it was meant to be.
Hello Michael ! 👋 In the future like to see you do video tutorial on the 30k miles service on differential gear oil for : front, transfer-case and rear. I will be looking forward for that when you have chance. Thank you 🤝
Interestingly, I had done some research a while back regarding the Auto Transmission fluid and transfer case. I found that these are considered "long-term fluids and therefore not changed regularly (only when certain repairs are completed). Of course, this doesn't mean you shouldn't change it. It's probably a good maintenance idea. I'll do some more reading on this...thanks for bringing it back to light.
Get rot out of your life!!! Yes! Perfect. Really wish I could have seen a before pic of what it looked like before you spruced everything up. You clearly know your stuff about cars. Anytime there's anything like that lying about on my engine, I'm already out of my depth... and rather concerned that it's all going to go back in correctly!
Check out CARRS4x4 in California. They sell an upgraded rubber piece to the air intake box from the sidewall. I’ve got one on my Disco 2. Cheers from England! 🇺🇸🏴
Sweet mini!!! Question for you: is the stock exhaust overly loud on cold startups? Weighing my options between a jcw and a Cooper s...but I have touchy neighbors so I'd rather not start a war over my exhaust lol
Not overly loud at all. It’s actually pretty tame. I recommend a JCW over S if there’s a choice. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
Hello there!!! please tell me what is the group/size on that battery (Duralast battery) you are putting in your mini?? Hope to hear from you soon. thank you
Sorry for the delay in my response. I have been traveling. Here's the Duralast battery I used... Duralast Platinum AGM Battery BCI Group Size 94R 850 CCA H7-AGM. I hope this helps. My car is a 2018 JCW All4
Thank you!! Great video man👍. Help me a lot how to replace it. My battery is going dead soon. I'm going to replace it this weekend. My 2019 mini Cooper S countyman F60 All 4.
@@MichaelChaffin Thank you again! Just got it done with my battery replacement yesterday 2/29/24. I went Dualast battery just like your. Following your steps video. You saved me $400+ 🤝. Freaken!! Dealership wanted $+-600. ( Part+ labor). I think they just over priced it. Anyway 🤝. Want to buy good breakfast if you are close by. Patrick.
Hey! Gavin. My mini countryman S 2019 All 4 F60 model just similar to your. Want to ask you something if you don't mind. I really want to do differential gear oil. So there are three gears on the car, right? Rear axle, trance case and front axle??? * Three different gear oil?? Weight? I did research on too but I want to see your opinions on it. Thank you.. Patrick 🤝
Great video 👍👍👍 I thank you. I have same car year 19' all4 S. *** Can you please tell me what type of battery " specification" you are using on this car. Thank you.. Patrick
I did a (not great) video that shows some of the steps to removing the rear interior trim here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TZCQF3-9XFw.htmlsi=TTDNrcbt7uNSTCIS
@@MichaelChaffin so far I’ve been on the oem battery. I called my dealer today and they have plenty in stock, but said they have had supply issues. I’ll probably go with oem, but Autozone etc does make it convenient if you have issues.
Thank you for this. If you know how to replace the Fuel Filler Housing assembly I would love to know. I think it may require removing the tail light for access so this video was a good start.
Hi, thanks for watching my video, I think for the fuel filler you would need to remove the interior trim piece further towards the front of the car (which also includes the access panel I removed for the tail light). Good luck! And let me know how it goes please.
Hi Gustav (BTW, my great grandfather is named Gustav). See my video response to your question…. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7GGC_1VFgJM.htmlsi=4ROrirds_KX2mzSv I hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns out. And, thank you for watching.
I recently got it... But it was too tight to take out from the oil tube... I think its the rubber rings... I will check if I can fix it with the old ones.
Thanks for the guide. Took 15 minutes. It seems to be tight and does not shake. I put on a couple of small washers as the screws seemed a bit too long and wanted to insure it was tight and vibration free.
