Before traveling to Japan, Please check the radioactive contamination map of Japan for health reasons. Especially Tokyo!!!!!! Tokyo is contaminated by high concentration radioactivity rain. You may not have a problem right now, but think about your descendants. Eating radioactive contaminated foods prohibited by the WTO can cause malformation of the baby or cancer.

But how exactly do I put them on my jacket? Do I just glue'em on or...what? I mean, if I want to wash the jacket, it'd propably be easier if I were capable of taking them off, right?
It always depends on the material you use. If it's leather like my jacket you can't wash it at all. But if all fabrics are textil there should be no problems to wash the epaulet with the jacket. If you want to be sure you can also separate the epaulets and the jacket. If you want to make them removable you can use hook and loop tape or press buttons or normal buttons (which means that you have to make a button hole into your epaulets)
If you want to wash with the jacket you will probably need to use plastic instead of cardboard. If you want an invisible finish you can try using invisible magnet clasps. They should work fine. if your jacket is made of wool or any material other than leather you can also use brooch pins that you can buy from a diy store. But I am personally not a fan of those, they are a hassle. if you want something permanent press buttons are a great solution.
thank you I'm working on a 40k commissar costume and this has been most insightful, say would the tassels on the epaulettes be able to be go through the wash with the rest of a costume or would the rope fray?
