It's strange to hear the educated talk about the things of God. I don't remember ever thinking anything weird reading Genesis 6 or psalms 82. I somehow instinctively knew the scriptures were talking about angels..never had any different thoughts.
Does he reconcile this with Jesus calling the Pharisees “gods” in John 10? Jesus recited the Psalm to them and called them gods with little g. Or is there some clarification I’ve missed? Thanks!
I've seen, lately, people trying to go after Dr Heiser. One thing you can tell though, is they don't ever dive deep into his work, because they either get offended by what he is teaching, are they want a clickbait, type of heresy Hunter, content directed at him but like I said, they never quote him correctly, they never rightly relate his position about doctrine. Have called him a polytheist, they have no idea, either by ignorance, or buy malicious intent, they misrepresent him. Even T A. McMahon from the Berean Call did, which surprised me. I thought of anyone would do with thorough deep dive, he would, being that he sat under Dave Hunt... Spiritual pride is a real thing... Anyway, is my humble opinion that on this side of eternity, we will only get the tip of the iceberg when it comes to doctrine, theology and biblical understanding. I know if we will humbly ask the Holy Spirit to teach us, and diligently study, we can grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Dr Heiser has helped me to understand the Old testament much better, which in turn helps me to get a better understanding of the New... I'm grateful for his many contributions the Christian community, and the world. 🙂

It is silly to say that something is illogical just because we cant explain it logically. If I time traveled 4000 years in the past and told people about cell phones, I would not be able to explain it logically. Even if I asked someone today to explain conciousness, they would fail, but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist. People must acquire a sufficient amount of information before logic can be applied. There are countless things in this reality that we are incapable of explaining logically, and I find it absurd to expect someone to explain the creator of all things when we cant even explain all things.
I love how they accuse you of being a heretic. I share probably 90% of your views, and I go to a large evangelical church in the US. Basically nobody in my congregation has a problem with my beliefs.
One thing I'll disagree with him on is that Gnosticism was absolutely a sinister movement in its origins, not just people trying to make sense of things and getting it horribly wrong. John makes it clear in 1 John 2 and 2 John 1 that the early Gnostic teachers were the "Antichrist" or "Antichrists." The idea of "the Antichrist," the "Spirit of Antichrist," and "Antichrists" has unfortunately been conflated with the Beast of Revelation and the "Man of Lawlessness" of Thessalonians, even though the Bible never connects them and John is clear what an Antichrist really is. And the term Antichrist only shows up in 1st and 2nd John, which means we must let John define what he meant. John says in 1 John (ESV) "Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour." It wasn't a single figure but an evil theology spread by many false shepherd "Antichrists" attempting to deceive Christians into a false theology claiming to be from Christ. He says they started as part of the community but "went out from us;" so they knew what the truth was and yet created false teachings through demonic influence. And he continues, "Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son." There is denial from them that Jesus comes from the Father (who the Gnostics consider to be the "demiurge") as the Christ, the Jewish Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament. In 2 John he makes it more clear what this Antichrist theology was: "For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist." These antichrists specifically taught that Jesus did not come "in the flesh." It was part of this Gnosticism that material flesh was always evil or corrupt, created by the idiot demiurge, and the spirit needed to be "freed" from it forever. So Gnostics (at least some forms of them) believed Jesus only "appeared" to have a physical body.

Finally: Muslims in this video or chat: Robs view is well learned by quite a few Christians that take scripture extremely seriously. It is sound and supported by the text. Fellow Christians and even scholarship. Rob is simply discussing and interacting with thought beyond the brink of saying, "God can do anything." A more interesting discussion can be turned on islam in that they seem to have the quaran responding to gnostic texts which we whole heartedly reject. But, fish dont know that they are wet if all they've known is being submerged in water. 1) We believe in 1 God- and dont be pompous enough to tell us what we believe or that we are lying. 2) Yahweh is eternally complex to our sinple minds and we recognize that. 3) We report what has been revealed. If it doesnt make sense to you, ask God- in Jesus' name to open your eyes because there are billions that see what you are blind to. 4) Your entire religion stems off of "our" Scriptures, BUT- ILLOGICALLY yall have changed the text , added to it, subtracted from it based on the testimony of a man that married a 6 year old and impregnated her at age 9, was a war monger, a slave owner- BUT he had a message given to him by an "angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14-15) 5) Yahweh has given us an intelligent mind that is capable of critical thought, reason, and logic. We actually utilize all 3 BECAUSE we are faithful and KNOW The Truth will still be standing when it is all said and done. Praise God for His Brilliant Revelations. 6) Rob is tracking the text. The muslims are simply unable to process his poibts because a) they dont know the text, b) are terrified to move beyond "God said so", and c) wet the bed when any science reference is made as if God did not author science. The Bible doesn't whitewash truth , regardless of how painful that truth might be . The scriptures warn of apostasy infiltrating the Christian community after the death of the Apostles , and we see that beginning to take place in the 2nd century AD all the way up to the present day . Christians are warned that even if an angel came bearing a doctrine other than those taught by the Apostles , they are to be cursed . "should we, or an angel from Heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed" Gal 1:8
Keep up the good work Rob!! Honestly your one of the best people to have conversations with Muslims. Don’t let these dawah guys discourage you because having conversations like this with your average Muslim is definitely gonna be more effective.
