Great American, Amazing service. Helped innovate the sport and reshape the battlefield. Just doing some research though, wasn't this family and airport involved in drug trafficking? Cocaine, or am I mistaken?
In the early 80's I learned to skydive at Perris, one of the last static line classes before AFF took over. Tom put a camera on the 182 strut to share his photos of us. I stopped in the mid 90's after getting married, but what I remember of Tom, is he would remember my name at the DZ, I was just a nobody. Nice guy. Back then we were glad to have 8 mm cameras, today everyone has a go pro.
Wonder if Sir Tom ever worked out that I pissed in his container in Lauterbrunnen. When you have owed someome USD 250 for 2 years and you wont pay them, especially when you dont know what they look like, it pays to pack your rig away from other people.
Man I love that guy. I had the honor of meeting him and getting a photo back in 2019 and it was one of the most memorable moments ever. A thousand salutes, Colonel Kittinger. Thank you for everything.
It's so true. Where is the campfire learning and stories anymore? I work at the DZ, been jumping there on and off since 2012 and never heard that story until now. Thank you, Intl' Skydiving Museum ♥
