As others have mentioned - Nice lens, especially on my A6400 but nowhere near as sharp as the Sigma f/1.4 Primes. I still use this when the lighting is good though & it allows me to not have to pack 2/3 lenses. Having to switch lenses when you're out an about can be a pain! Still love my 18-105 but currently looking at selling mine to upgrade to a sharper zoom lens before the jump to Full Frame :D

I want to love this lens but I’ve had focus hunting issues so I haven’t used it much. Have you heard of any issues like this? If so, are there any solutions?
it is one of the most versatile lenses out there! Since you get the full spectrum from 18-105mm. That's awesome. Built quality, zoom and focus ring is perfect. Size is very great for what you get. I bought additionaly the sigma 16mm 1.4 and the sigma 56mm 1.4. Trust me especially the 56mm 1.4 is compaired to the sony 18-105 a lot better at the one thing the sigma prime can do. There are miles away regarding the sharpness of the picture, the bokeh and the low loght performance. So that was just my experience. I'd suggest everyone to get both or 3! And especially if you think to make some pictures! If I go out to take pictures I'll take the sigma 56mm.
This is a very nice lens indeed if used with a camera with 'optical correction' feature on. I bought it for my FS7, which does have this feature but only in HD mode. In 4k, with this feature disabled the lens distorts incredible. Totally unusable. If any body knows how this feature can be used in 4k mode. Please tell me :) Besides this, nice review!

Great video review, I recently purchased the Sony SEL-20F28 E-Mount 20mm F2.8 Prime Fixed Len and would very much like to see a comparison video of the two lenses to see if a pancake len that is 1/3 the price can measure up to the Sony 20mm 1.8? Thanks
Great video, but have to disagree. It completely depends on what you want to do but I’ve recently switched to SIGMA 30mm + 16mm 1.4 which give me WAY sharper images than the Sony lens. But again, it’s your personal preference and what you want to shoot. But i almost, never - ever, use it since i’ve taken on the Sigma lenses.
Great insight. I haven't messed around a lot with the sigma lenses since I am still fairly new to the game, but I have heard they are incredible lenses. I will have to look into getting a sigma and comparing the two! Thanks for you comment!
@@jayden.bowles yeah check it out. they both are absolutely amazing. I always evaded the 30mm because it's a prime lens. But man, it improved my photography sooo much that I bought the 16mm few months later!
It is a sharp lens, just learn how to shoot with this lens. Practice, practice and practice. I'm new to digital cameras, been using film based cameras for many years. When you shoot, learn how to focus, what shutter speed you need to shoot at and how to steady yourselves. I get great pictures from this lens and any of my other Sony Lens. They are all sharp, but you, the photographer, have to learn to control yourself and learn what speed to shoot at when shooting at wide angle or telephoto. Keep in mind, due to the crop sensor, multiply the focal length by 1.5 and in reality, you have a 27 to 157mm lens. Any shake at max telephoto setting will mess up any photo, no matter what lens you use.
I have been using this lense for a couple of months and have seemed to run into a couple of instances where I have had a similar issue. Like Mr. Robocall mentioned in his comment on this thread, it definitely takes practice, which I am still learning myself! Love what others have shared on here too. Thanks for the comment!
Very soft, this is why i nearly never use it on my a6500. In some zoom ranges even the focus peaking doesn't recognizes edges because of it's softness.
After using the lens for several months now, I am starting to see this more and more. I will have to make another video addressing this. Thanks for the comment!
there are alot of reviews out there and most of them agree, that the middle is always sharp while the corners lack sharpness and contrast on wider apertures. the distortion also makes it unusuable if you dont have corrections available to you.
It's tough to say it all, because it was different in different scenes. I am always changing my settings. For this shoot I mainly shot everything in 4k at 30fps. I try to keep my iso around 200, and my shutter speed is always double my frame rate, so I had it around 1/60 with my aperture around f4 the entire time. I use an ND filter to adjust my lighting. Hope this helps!
There is a little bit of footage from some wedding shoots I added in the footage, but I will have to make another view talking more about the lens. Thanks for the suggestion!
this is a crop sensor lens, it's meant for the 6xxx series of sony cameras, not the a7/a9 line. Given that the a7S line has already a really small megapixel count, the resulting image will be very small resolution and most likely not cropable except for maybe social media use...you'd probably get better results with your phone.
@@DroneViewHD depending on what you want to do with the camera there’s a 16-35, 24-70 and a 24-105 that would be good choices if you want native Sony. There’s also Tamron which are more budget friendly and some sigma ones. I’m not a good source if you want lenses for video as I’m mostly into still photography. What you want are lenses that are labeled FE (full frame) for Sony e-mount. Vs the ones labeled E that are for crop sensor. From my understanding, for video you can get away with using crop lenses as well but I’d look elsewhere for that information
@@mariakorolev3811 Maria Thank you so much for your time and for explaining the lenses available for my camera. I will definitely look into the 24-105 I really need a little bit of zoom since I am planing in using that lens on a gimbal.
@@DroneViewHDI don’t think any of those are gimbal power zoom lenses. There’s attachments you can use but I don’t think you can just zoom them easily as is. Like I said, I don’t do much video work other than just little travel clips so I’m not much help with that. I would search RU-vid some more for your combination of camera and gimbal and see what lenses others are using
