Shall we discuss whole Artichokes? Yes, the leaves are finger food. You hold them flesh side down and scrape them between your teeth. When you get to the base, you use a fork.
Nancy is a very elegant lady who is obviously well-versed in the ways of table etiquette and social decorum: But seriously, how many people in this day and age are being invited to formal dinners at family, friends, and associates’ homes where they are served by the waitstaff? Sadly, many people nowadays frown upon the formal table manners as stuffy behavior. Formal business events and fancy restaurant environments, not considering. Perhaps what is needed is a modified/less formal version of the proper table etiquette to fit the times!
True story: Decades ago during the 80s in Cebu, Philippines my father and his other co worker was invited by his boss to go to a fine dining restaurant - a revolving restaurant that no longer exists. This little bowl was served to them and his companion literally drink the bowl.
Thank you for this information, it is very helpful. Shouldn't center pieces correspond well with most settings,? I'm thinking this should depend on how and what's being served. In cases where the space is small or limited, cocktails glasses, and charcuterie grazing boards can be removed since this comes before the main course leaving the main course setting in place. The guest are already settled at their tables, and late comers still won't look inappropriate as they join the cocktail hour. By the time the main course and event actually began, most guest will be seated comfortably.
It appears that the cocktail hour and charcuterie grazing correspond well at the same settings of the main course. It's just that one comes prior to the other, however it keeps things and people organised mostly. Just an idea,I don't know for sure.
Drumsticks can have the meat removed with a knife. Put your fork into the meatiest part and "fillet" the meat off the bone. Some people say ribs too but there often isn't enough meat in one place to get a good grip. If you're at a BBQ or ribs joint, it's ok to use fingers but please try to keep the sauce IN your mouth, not on your face.
In this situation, I'm more grateful to the Japanese people for having the wet towel for to clean your hands 😭 I would probably mistake that as for a drink even though I know this exists
My question is: how do I eat corn on the cob with dentures? At home I take a sharp knife and cut the kernels off. Would this be considered bad manners? I could just ignore the corn, of course!
If somebody serves spaghetti or corn-on-the-cob at a sit down dinner they should be beaten ... If they serve COTC the host should provide you with corn holders skewers..
@@xadam2dudex Weird, in all the time I've spent being Italian, having Italian relatives and being in Italy, I never saw anyone be unable to eat spaghetti properly.
Dear heaven I do hope the chef has properly separated the oyster from the shell! If not, don't go back! This is the first time I have ever seen a fish knife.
I agree. lDon't eat pasta in public. It's rude. I will never understand the popularity of places like Olive Garden. Grrrrr. Pasta is very easy to make at home. I never pay to have someone else make pasta for me.
