650f sucks balls when compared to hornet. why? because suspension sucks, no combi-brake, less power, more weight, produced in thailand - build quality is noticeably worse. shame on you, honda, it was a really shitty move
Hi Jeremy , I get 4.6 ltr per 100 km which is the same as my previous cb, but I tend to ride my current bike a bit harder, probably because of the lower gearing on second to fifth gear. I had a demo on the CB650R didn't notice any difference power wise, then again you wouldn't unless you were red lining, I also preferred the riding position on the f, but that might just be me. First generation look like a bargain, lots of low milage bikes out there, the 4 cylinder 650 engine is a peach never had a problem. Hope this helps. ...dave
@@5vete Hi Dave first off thank you for the reply, yes there's many first gen with low mileage for sale out there, don't know but I like the look of it than the 2nd gen, but then again the price difference between the the 2 for used ones are almost identical depending on the mileage. I've sat on the one like yours and found the riding position a bit leaned forward, I prefer the more neutral upright position, I'm yet to sit on the 1st gen which I'm about to view one today. I'm just going to go with whichever is more comfortable for me. Regards
Did you need to use complicated risers for the rear hugger's right side? I installed the Givi one on my 700X but I didn't really like it as much as I'd hoped. I took a lot longer than 30 minutes to install with poor installation instructions.
Hi Robert, bought the rear hugger from "Speedmax" which is the retail department of "Ermax" who are in southern France. hope this helps, regard's dave.
Great walk around, bud! Just bought an ex demo in blue with 600 miles on it, and I am in love. It now has 1600 miles on it a week later. While I haven't ridden the old one, I agree with nearly everything you've said. The forks would look better USD, but they work fantastically well, giving me loads of confidence and feeling really planted when cranked over. The exhaust sounds perfect for me as it is. I couldn't believe my beloved Honda put out a bike with such a great sounding standard exhaust. Just love it a full throttle in the high revs while at the same time it's not obnoxious at smaller throttle openings. The new, lower bars seem to be the right choice too, they lean me forward a bit which makes cruising at 70-80 no probs at all, and with the bike being naked you can tell when you are going very illegal speeds, the 130 I've had out of her feels like 130, whereas on the ninja 600 I had many years ago, I was constantly surprised when I looked down and saw 130ish and was expecting 90-100. Overall a cracking bike, thanks for the vid.
never rode the 2012 bike, my last hornet was the 2008, i think the only difference between the 12 and the 8 was the new clocks and adjustable front forks.don't think there's much difference in top end but the 600 seemed a bit quicker acceleration the new cb is lower geared (2nd to 5th) so should be a bit quicker.done less than 600 miles so i haven't pushed it yet. would have been nice if honda had gone with upside-down forks and a 2 piece exhaust but thats just me...........dave
Tbh I think the new showa forks are brilliant (I've not tried nothing else tboe) . Also would you say the acceleration up to say 80 mph is better on the 650f than hornet? After what I have seen the hornet is only got the advantages When your caneing the nuts off it am I right?
would be nice to have them side by side on a track-day,i think they would be pretty much the same. yes the forks are an improvement on the original ones, the riding position and lower bars are nice and the exhaust sounds a lot better.........dave
got the fender extender from Jesterstrickbits(on ebay) the hugger was direct from ermax in france. keep an eye on jesters cos they do some good offers, got the fender extender for £12.50 sterling, but the next time i looked it was up to £19...............cheers, dave
I test rode the original NC700X and did like it although I didn't take it on the motorway, the storage in the false tank is amazing, but having to fuel up with throw over panniers would be a pain in the arse on a tour. I do like the latest NC750X and DCT does sound appealing.
six months after i bought the nc,i saw the cb650f tri-colour and just could,nt resist it,now 2 years later,i just traded it in for a 2016 nc 750X. only done just over 1000km on it,but it seems to ride a lot better forks and shock are much improved and i don,t the limiter so often , might just be me though.cheers dave.
I get it now mate. An Englishman living in Cork. That's the colour I test rode and was tempted to trade in the CB500X for it, but it was too expensive at the time and I was going to take a big hit on a trade in. I test rode an MT07 recently and loved it over the XSR700. I've done almost 28000 miles on my CB500X and have decided to keep it. :)
sometimes yer just got to take the hit(just took another one) i tested the MT07 just for the craic , seemed really small to me after riding the cb , tried the MT09 very snatchy on the throttle don,t think i could live with that in traffic.did like the tracer though, fueling was spot on but couldnt get a decent deal. do like the new nc though. :)........dave
yep, when i tot it all up,you prob made the right decision :). you will usually find me pottering around west cork and kerry ,bit like the west coast of scotland but a wee bit softer......dave
I test rode that bike and loved it. I agree with everything you say as I also owned an original 1st generation Honda Hornet 600cc. Thanks for the sub. Where you riding in Ireland?
Great vid! What are your thoughts on the Honda NC750X? Check out the review I just did. Similar class. Thx! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EwU75QRw_L8.html
5 Things I Hate About the Honda NC750X. I had to dig deep for this because I love the bike. 5 Things I Love About the Honda NC750X is coming soon!ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hHHvRmE_GnM.html
Hello Dave. A nice little video detailing some of the finer points of the cub. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more of you again out on your CB650F. Ride Safely.
***** missed my hornet, could'nt get used to the low revs so i thought i'd give the cb a go. rides like a hornet without changing gear all the time, looks great in the tri-colour and sounds awsome with the ixil exhaust. still a hooligan at heart............dave
nice bike, i am waiting until i get my new shed built before buying a bike, i passed my test last year so im holidng out now for a good deal on the CB or NC and somewhere to keep it out of the rain
it took quite awhile for me to get used to riding at high revs on my CB500x, but once I did, I love it. I originally looked at the NC but I concluded that the extra 2k was not worth it for my riding style. Good insights
if they are the same as the ones in my video( think they are called duel road or something similar) they go straight on after removing the bar-end weights.regards
Would you say this bike is good for a begginer and confortable for two passengers on a journey at, lets say, 150kph? Occasionally I might need to take some dirt roads, do you think this is ok for that or I should go for a BMW f 650 GS instead? I really respect Honda for its reliability, Its something I really look in a motorcycle.
Since I might want to replace my BMW G650GS with something cheaper to run as a daily ride (see my review and you'll understand why ;) ... I looked at both these Honda bikes as well. In your opinion, what's the biggest extra you get from the NC750 compared to the CB? (and I mean other than the luggage bin, 'cause that's obvious) Why would I want to lay down extra coin for the 750? I do 25 km twice a day, btw. Also: How's the windshield?
if you only do 50km a day, perhaps the cb, but i would really ride the 2 bikes. the screen is pretty good for me though, i'll buy a bigger screen for really long trips...hope this helps......dave.
